Iteron Deck - 2006/11/19 07:24 Well, I was pawing through my cards the other day, and noticed all the Iteron (inferior, normal, superior) abbilities (yes fairly obvious I know). Now, I'm the type of person who likes to try combo's out. There's just one thing missing, Iteron's can't really do damage, all they do is make isk. I figured on running Oneiros to make sure the Iteron's don't get eatten. So, my question here, with the little snippet of an idea I've formulated, what offensive strategy would work well with this income basis? As a point of clarification as well, specifics are great, but just a general overarching theme is really what I'm after, as I'd prefer to fill in the gaps myself, but whatever ya'll feel like is great.

Re:Iteron Deck - 2006/11/19 10:49 I've been looking at these ships for some time and trying to work out if a very solid mining/trading base can actually stand up to a military deck.

Obviously the main problem involves not being able to enact any offence and having a fairly weak defence.
My main idea is to pack a lot of news cards that control the environment and cheap combat worthy ships as backup.
Hired Enforcers can make your Ities more combat capable.
Manufacturing Errors can get rid of an attacking ship.
Pirate Merceneries can destroy attacking ships.
Stubborn Mechanics can help your ships not die in combat.
Veterans Premature Retirement can also remove problematic ships.

So maybe look at using News cards to slow down and cripple your opponents ships.

If you can quickly generat as large an income as possible, you should be able to fuel these News cards easily.
And if you can get yourself making about 15-20isk a turn as quickly as possible, pack Labour Quarters to speed produce Battleships out in 2 turns tops. This trying to force the end game upon your opponent.

This is just one strategy to take, and I am unsure as to its strength, but it could be pretty entertaining.

To sum up- Strong isk production, cheap combat backup, ship manipulation news and turbo BS production.

Re:Iteron Deck - 2006/11/20 08:30 Any ship-based income, whether it be trading or mining, is intrinsically weak because ships can be removed. Whether it be by news, or by enemy ships, you have a lot to contend with to keep the ISK flow constant. If you use the 'backup' cards neccessary to keep these ships alive and producing, such as movement interdiction, Ancestral Homelands, etc, then you're so focused on generating income and protecting it that you often struggle for cards to actually play the game with.

In addition to this, you have the whole outer region issue to contend with; as well as keeping your ships alive, you have to deal with things such as City of God and Forsaken Ruins which can mean game over early on after you waste a turn's production on a region plus a trading ship.

Personally, I dont think these kind of ISK schemes are viable as a standalone strategy. Even Inferior Iterons, which had seemed so good early on in playing, are getting worse as the decks people play get tighter. Controlling outer regions early when you're a turn's production down from laying the region+trader/miner/etc is a tough proposition against a good deck.

Re:Iteron Deck - 2006/12/01 05:59 Well, I thought on this a little more, and though I realize that the deck doesn't really hold any competitive value per say, It would still be fun to build and play. I came up with a loose outline of what I envisioned for the deck. A few things are tentative, as I'm not really sure as if they'd really work. And, although, like I said, it's not viably competitive, I would still apreciate any input.

Enthrallment Tower
Tierijev Pocket
Metropolis
Dam Torsad

Warp Disruption Field x4 (tentative)
SCC Global Market x4
The Night Shift Sector x4
The Crystal Boulevard x4 (tentative)
12

Flourishing Trade Route x4
Prophecy of Macaber x4 (tentative)
Hired Enforcers x4
8

Oneiros x4
Inferior Iteron x4
Iteron x4
Superior Iteron x4
16

Mercenary Base x4
Ancestral Homeland x4
Omber x4
Remote Research Facility x4
16

52-60

Re:Iteron Deck - 2006/12/01 08:51 Random note - Crystal Boulevard gives you 0 ISK if your opponent chooses not to reveal a card. Making it probably the worst card in the game right now.

I looked at that but 1 isk per turn off a 3 cost starbase structure is one of the better earners. I don't like the card either but cards with (affectively) no text box can still see play.

Re:Iteron Deck - 2006/12/02 01:04 Yeah I realized that the chances of people actually revealing a card are pretty slim...but meh, it's just a maybe card.

Re:Iteron Deck - 2007/01/14 18:39 So far, I have found the Iteron deck too slow. Region denial is easy, and without outer regions, Iterons go nowhere. If your opponent gives you the turns to build up, then it is effective, but I have found that chasing speed over income leads to more wins.

We'll see what happens when my pool of opponents grows larger, but until I see otherwise, I'll bet that speed kills.
