Semi-Faceless Control - 2007/01/17 10:15 This is a deck I came up with some time ago. The name refers to a certain Legend of the Five Rings decktype. It uses the wide variety of control elements the Gallente have at their disposal to keep the opponent at a safe distance from your precious starbase, then drop some big guns (preferably using Lonetrek) and attack when they are weak.

S: Enthrallment Tower

R: The Tierijev Pocket (If you draw Arkonor early, just drop the Pocket, play Arkonor there and send a single miner to dig for minerals. The Pocket's ability should keep that little miner safe for quite a long time.)
R: Lonetrek
R: Metropolis (A cheap Region with a good defensive ability.)

Locations:
4 x Veldspar
4 x Pyroxeres
3 x Crumbling Moon (Income AND good mineral value)
1 x Arkonor

Miners:
4 x Velator
4 x Ibis

Big Guns:
4 x Tristan
4 x Auguror
4 x Brutix

Structures:
4 x Sentry Gun

News:
4 x Pirate Mercenary (Removal)
4 x Veteran's Premature Retirement (Removal)
4 x Slave-dog Stowaways (Stalls opponent's draw and income)
4 x Damage Control

Well, that's pretty much it. What do you think about it?

Re:Semi-Faceless Control - 2007/01/17 13:28 The deck looks quite good to me. My only suggestion is to change Reaper for Ibis. Any extra shield is more likely to help you later game than a 1dmge ambush. We shall seed the stars with our scions and reap that harvest.

Re:Semi-Faceless Control - 2007/01/17 19:27 Thanks for the advice. Is there a way to make the deck run smoother/better? If so, do you have any suggestions?

Re:Semi-Faceless Control - 2007/01/18 11:21 The only thing I can see, having not played the deck, is Lonetrek could slow you down if you attempt to use it's ability. Heaven (money generation), Khanid Kingdom (money generation/lockdown) or Society of Conscious Thought (card generation) might be better depending on where you want to improve the performance of your deck.

Re:Semi-Faceless Control - 2007/01/18 17:34 I'm of the opinion that Sentry Guns belong primarily in Ambush decks. If I'm not running heavy on ambush, I'd rather play Hired Enforcers. Just something to consider. EMP Minefields would be perfect, but Gallante sadly can't play them... -Ryuteki, Owner of the Rules!

Re:Semi-Faceless Control - 2007/01/18 22:13 I drop the sentry guns and put in labour quarters in a heavy deck they work better than lonetrek (IMO) www.gamers.uk.net/

The Guns are there to help defend against weenie decks in early game. I dislike boost cards like the Enforcers or Stubborn Mechanic because they do nothing on their own.

As for the Labor Quarters mentioned by Krell, I'm not the biggest fan of them. If you play one, each of them that you draw later becomes a dead card - and no deck likes dead cards. Lonetrek is a certain way to activate ships faster and it doesn't take up deck space (pun intended ).

Re:Semi-Faceless Control - 2007/01/19 17:38 Be that as it may, Stubborn Mechanics has singlehandedly won me more games than any other card in my deck. Hired Merceraries has also taken out a few starbases from opponents who thought they had "one more turn" before my combined ship attack power reached that magic number of their shield strength. -Ryuteki, Owner of the Rules!

Re:Semi-Faceless Control - 2007/01/19 19:46 I think boost cards belong more to ship-rich decks than to this one. Theoretically, when this deck makes an attack on an opponent's starbase, it's usually the first and final one. I've found out that there is no need to use cards that let your ships live through multiple battles since you have plenty of removal that lets you win them by sheer force alone, without the need for "dirty tricks". I tell you, nothing infuriates an opponent more than a Pirate Merc AND a Retirement played on their turn, when they've just moved into my home region .

Re:Semi-Faceless Control - 2007/01/19 21:58 Personally I like playing them just after they decided not to withdraw... -Ryuteki, Owner of the Rules!
