Re:Calling all diehards , noobs and Usual Suspects - 2008/05/14 20:22 Organizing a swiss tournament could be tricky in a short period of time.
Than more something like "everyone against everyone" tournament. Everyone can choose his enemy as uner two conditions:
Both of them must have time.
And two people may only play once against each other during the tournament.
And then the two best will be in the final. Or something like this.
I guess it should be the easyest way to organize the tournament when the players may choose their opponent by themseves.

Re:Calling all diehards , noobs and Usual Suspects - 2008/06/02 13:45 Sorry about this folks:
I was in the middle of trying to pull something togther for our online tournament, when the site outage last week happened. TBH i thought WW had just went ahead and killed the game (and who could blame me!?)

Needless to say it made me very pessimistic about our beloved CCG and its future, and it is on that note that i have to say, with regret, I will not be co-ordinating any sort of online tourney... at least until there are some significant developments from WW/CCP.

Thanks to everyone who expresed an interest or had some input, but I think it would be a complete waste of time at present to try and carry this off, given the current stagnant environment. I thought at the time that we would be flogging a dead horse, but I was prepared to go ahead anyway. Apologies for my change of heart. I'll see what transpires over the next while (nothing is what I'm betting) and we'll maybe do something like this in the future - just dont anyone hold your breath until it happens!!
Cheers...

Re:Calling all diehards , noobs and Usual Suspects... - 2008/06/02 18:45 I can feel with you. Kind of sad to see the game die with every little piece (Bualhinns (?) online thing, eve foiled, your thing, ...).

Re:Calling all diehards , noobs and Usual Suspects - 2008/06/03 19:07 As schubi says, I can certainly understand. You held out hope and dedication far longer than I was capable of doing so.

Re:Calling all diehards , noobs and Usual Suspects - 2008/06/04 07:07 If its alright with you folks I'm gonna take over the online tournament.

I can see 2 variations:
A ) Standard swiss pairings...
B ) "Freeform" swiss pairings like rom suggested.

freeform looks simpler at first glance: People can choose opponents from the same timezone and get together more easily. But chances are that with 4 games you will eventually have to face someone on the other side of the pond. Once the combinations among your usual peers have all been played it gets much more complicated than just getting together with some assigned opponent.

I think if we just give every round 1 week to meet up that should work too. with 4 swiss rounds and a top 4 that would take 6 weeks though. But if we see that everyone has finished the round we can skip ahead...

The biggest problem I see are judges... Mostly just because it's one more person that needs to have time. I'm open to suggestions. We could leave them away but i think that at least in the final(s) we should have one...

One more thing that I would like to suggest is voice comm during the match. It's much easier and faster to say "I do this and that" instead of typing it in the chat...

You're welcome. I know how hard it is leading an effort through such times. It helps a lot if someone can bear the burden for a while so the others can rest and gather some motivation again.

I had a new idea concerning judges... If the players start their round early enough, most rule disputes should be possible to resolve in time by pausing the game and asking the judge here in the forum. I could do that (I'm not good at deck building anyway so I could easily sit this one out and be judge). I will have to check if it is possible to save a game in the clients. Otherwise the connection would have to remain active.

On second thought that sounds complicated. Easier would be if the players research it on the forum and find a solution themself.

Re:Calling all diehards , noobs and Usual Suspects - 2008/06/13 11:33 I'm trying to get some info about the next release of OCTGN 2. I think that would be a wonderful option to play with at the tournament. If it's too far into the future we'll just skip that for the first round. I'd rather do one tournament soon and learn from mistakes than never do one in fear of making mistakes...

Re:Calling all diehards , noobs and Usual Suspects - 2008/06/14 14:02 Yeahh
these are great news. I was very disapointed when i heard about end of the online tournament even before it started. Thank you Kampeth for not giving up your hope.
Even if this game is dead or dieing. It´s still one of the gratest card games i ever played. And i´m sure that this tournament will be very interesting an funny as long as there are enaugh people who think the same way as i do.

Re:Calling all diehards , noobs and Usual Suspects - 2008/06/16 07:17 Alright. jods posted in his blog that the next release of OCTGN 2 will be somewhere in August. This is too long to wait for using it in the tournament.

So... I'm setting the start of the tournament to Monday 2008-06-30. People who want to participate can subscribe to the tournament in the event section here until 2008-06-27. All days and times are in GMT/EVE/Iceland time meaning that Friday 23:59 in New York is no longer Friday in the tournament.

I'm gonna open a thread in the event section for this tournament later...
