Mega/Rax vs News - 2006/11/03 11:36Despite the rules changes and wordings, Im lost now as to where we're up to on this in terms of the official ruling, there's than many posts around about it.
So:
Megathrons, Thoraxes, and Martial Law - can they be targeted/destroyed as they're being played?
I'm thinking yes, but you know, need to be sure.

Re:Mega/Rax vs News - 2006/11/03 11:54The official ruling is one of the rule clarifications you can see if you click on the Rulebook.
To play a card: You play a card by paying the price of a card in your hand, revealing it and placing it on the “pile”. Cards on the pile can be targeted and destroyed unless they specifically say that they can't (f.ex. Thorax and Megathron cannot be targeted by news, and Martial Law cannot be destroyed or targeted).
On the old forums I believe I said at one point that these could be targeted, because they hadn't been resolved from the pile yet and therefore their card text hadn't come into effect.
Then, when we were updating the rules, we decided that it would make more sense that targeting restrictions also applied when the card is on the pile.Tallest Content Manager and Super Administrator (SUPER Administrator!!!) EVE: The Second Genesis

Q: When my opponent plays Martial Law, can I play a news card before Martial Law resolves? And if so, can I play Mind Control to destroy Martial Law?
A: Yes, you can play a news card on the pile before Martial Law resolves, but it cannot target or destroy Martial Law since it specifially says that it cannot be targeted or destroyed.
The same question could be asked about Ibis, since ship abilities don't apply when they are docked. But again, Ibis specifically states that it give +1 shield to your starbase when docked.

Re:Mega/Rax vs News - 2006/11/03 12:48Cool, cool. That makes Megathron not 'worst bs in the game' anymore then
And it makes Martial Law...uh....I already play 4 in most every deck that can, but man, that card is Insurance Fraud level good now.

Re:Mega/Rax vs News - 2006/11/03 13:12I think it is even in the next level now. Thorax and Megathron definitly went up another level too, Megathron maybe even two.

Still, nothing beats having Moas in play with a few Informations at a Cost in your hand.
