Rulebook: Core vs. Exiled... FIGHT! - 2007/10/08 04:38The discussion concerning how many ships can mine a location have highlighted a bit of oddity with the rules, and prompted a more general question.
What is the priority order for the rules? There are rules in the Exiled sheet which contradict the Core rules. There are rules in the Core rulebook which are missing from the Exiled, even on top of the less complete nature of the Exiled rulesheet.
So, what is the priority order for rules? Can we expect a composite rules set any time soon, or at the very least a list of errata to the Core rules?

Re:Rulebook: Core vs. Exiled... FIGHT! - 2007/10/08 10:19The most recent version of the rules supersedes the previous one as far as I'm concern. For it to otherwise would be highly unusual and very confusing for players. We shall seed the stars with our scions and reap that harvest.

Player who are introduced to Eve CCG by buying an Exiled starter will play according to the Exiled rulesheet.
Players who inherit or bulk buy a set of single cards (myself included) will probably play according to the online rulebook.
Others who began with the core set will play according to the Printed rulebook.
In essence, there are 3 seperate factions who each believe they are playing the game according to the "REAL" rules.
although there are certain cards in the Core Set which have printed abilities which allow a player to mine a location using more than one ship (thereby drawing attention to the fact that this is unusual), I can't find ANY cards in Exiled which mention this!!
Imagine an Exiled-only player rigourously playtesting a "mining-heavy deck" and getting it to the point where you feel they could do well in a competition, checking the website to make sure they have the latest version of the rules then turning up to a sanctioned event only to find everyone else has a different set of rules and that their deck actually won't "work". Not only will this humiliate the player, but in the strictest sense, they actually did nothing "wrong".
We DO need an Official Current Rulings Document of some kind.

Unfortunately there are some non-trivial consistency issues between the two, and the attention to detail surrounding this game gives me no confidence in saying those issues are intentional changes. The lack of a concise errata document listing the changes from Core to Exiled complicates matters as well. Players shouldn't have to run a diff on the two documents to find what's changed.
In the immediate, let's all just sit and ponder Scouts + Arkonor under the Exiled rules...

Re:Rulebook: Core vs. Exiled... FIGHT! - 2007/10/09 11:41The most current printed rule book should be without error. The situation about mining is astonishing and it is good to see that at least the online rulebook has been altered in response but it does say that someone did not do their job right. The rule book has to be 100% correct and if it is not the game will suffer.
We can only hope that the mining snafu is the only one and that any player thinking of going to a tournament will log on here and see the correction. This is not a good fix though but all we, as players, can do is hope that CCP does better in the future over such issues and eliminate these mistakes. We shall seed the stars with our scions and reap that harvest.

You click on rulebook, you get the online rulebook, and a sub option opens up with a link to the exiled "rules sheet" which makes it seem that the rulebook is still the official rules, with an addendum for the exiled stuff......

Re:Rulebook: Core vs. Exiled... FIGHT! - 2007/10/24 16:34Basing on experience from other CCG : there is a rulebook (Core Set), and Rule Sheet - changes and updates to Rulebook. Anything that is not covered by Rulesheet is played 'by the (Rule)book'.
