Questions with kind regards from Russia - 2007/10/26 06:29 So, saturday would be a day of EVE promotion in my native town. Starter decks printed, spoiler is translating...

1. Cathedral - Starbase Structure
When your starbase is upgraded, destroy cathedral and draw a card. Your opponents cannot win the game unless their starbase is destroyed. You cannot lose the game unless your starbase is destroyed.

What is it mean? That opponents can win only by destroying my starbase (say no to alternative win conditions), but I can win by destroying all opponents' starbases or by completion alternative win conditions, isn't it?

2. Ships wraps to enemy region with deactivated commands and can't activate them. It's a benefit of defence - stay and wait your enemy with activated commands. My mean is right?
2.1 Or I can deactivated commands, wrap my ships to enemy region, then activate commands. What is right?

Re:Questions with kind regards from Russia - 2007/10/26 07:01 1. I believe your understanding is correct.

Your opponent must destroy your starbase to win the game, they cannot win through any alternate win scenarios.
You cannot lose the game unless your starbase is destroyed. For example, you continue to play even if you have to draw a card and have no cards remaining in your market.
You may win through alternate win conditions, and your opponents may lose through any conditions, unless ofcourse they have their own cathedral.

2. You cannot activate commands or play abilities of any ship that attacked (warped to an enemy controlled region) that turn. So yes, having commands active is a benefit of defense.

Re:Questions with kind regards from Russia - 2007/10/26 09:56 1. Some cards' text said: "draw step". But draw step isn't exist in game rules. Is it misspelling? If it is, do I have read "draw step" as "draw phase"?

2. How can I know, where is interrupt of card (card goes on the scrapheap from pile) and where is destroy (card goes on the scrapheap from play)? Text of most of suitable cards isn't clear.

3. Some cards' text said: "Locations in this region can be mined by any number of ships at the same time". Is it mean, that usually only one ship can have activated mining in the one location (one location - one ship with activated mining)?

4. Mamoth:
when mammoth becomes fully assembled you may hasten the assembly of up to two ships in your dock so that they are fully assembled. Haul 3

When Mamoth becomes fully assembled, I can choose one or two ships in my dock. Chosen ships becomes fully assembled too. All of this occurs at a heat. Isn't it?

5. Magnetic pulse:
Magnetic pulse must have 3 different targets. Magnetic pulse deals 1 damage to target ship. Magnetic pulse deals 2 damage to target ship. Magnetic pulse deals 3 damage to target ship.

One target is illegal, two targets are illegal. Only three targets are legal. Isn't it?

Re:Questions with kind regards from Russia - 2007/10/26 12:41 1) I think that this is a mistake and they they do actually mean "Draw Phase"

2) I'm not sure what you mean here. Could you provide some examples...?

3) Yes... normally only one location may be mined by one ship at a time (although this does not appear in the latest set of rules)

4) Yes, they become assembled (although technically, by choosing "up to 2 ships" you could choose 0, 1 or 2 ships)

5) Yes. Unless you have three valid targets then Magnetic Pulse cannot be played.

Good luck for tomorrow. Be sure to let us know how it goes.

Re:Questions with kind regards from Russia - 2007/10/26 12:57 2) I'm not sure what you mean here. Could you provide some examples...?

1. Damage Control:
Choose one: destroy target news or return target news in play to its owner's hand.
As I read this text:
Choose one: destroy target news in pile or return target news in play to its owner's hand.

2. Mind Control:
Destroy target news, where x is its printed price.
As I read this text:
Destroy target news in pile, where...

3. Remnant of Vak'atioth:
duration3: destroy all other news in play. Duration2: destroy all ships in play. Duration3: destroy all locations in play.
As I read this text:
Duration 3: Destroy all other news in play...

So, if text said "news", it means "news in pile". If text said "news in play", it means "news in play". Am I correct?

I realiazed, what is confused me. Compare the next...
EVE TSG: "Destroy news" means "Destroy news in pile";
WOW TCG: "Destroy news" means "Destroy news in play";
WoW TCG synonyme: "Interrupt news card".

Good luck for tomorrow. Be sure to let us know how it goes.
OK.

Re:Questions with kind regards from Russia - 2007/10/29 09:00 I continue topic about destroy, and here is the third wording:
News - Exiled from the Empire
Destroy target card that is being played.

Finally, we have three wording of "destroy a card":
Destroy target card,
Destroy target card in play,
Destroy target card that is being played.

I'll be grateful to anyone, who explane me, what case is for what. Thanks.

It's, what about demo-session:

There were four participants in our EVE promo party: me, my older brother (players) and my two friends (spectators). We played two games with demo-decks.

First matchup Minmatar win of Amarr. I played Stain (Outer Region) early, lost it fastly, lost tempo and good income. Ambush is in defence and Kamikaze is in attack - key factors, that done game (plus my error with Outer Region).

Second matchup Caldary win of Gallente. My starting hand (Caldary) was: Condor, Merlin, Informational Cost, Thukker Pirate Haven, Advanced Shipyard, Interstellar Trade Post, and Veldspar.
First turn: Veldspar in play, Condor in play (assembly 1).
Second turn: draw Veldspar, Veldspar in play, Condor attacks enemy Starbase, Merlin in play (Assembly 1).
Third turn: when I played other cards from hand except news, opp concede the game.
I think, that win is result of very very good starting hand (by the way, without mulligan).

Next day we played suchlike matches. Both matches done by lack of cards in the market. It was beautiful, when I played 2 Information at a Cost and target my opp, then my opp tried to draw a card when none are left in his market.

Very interesting and well designed game. Easy, but brutal gameplay, unique resource and command
systems, assembly and duration - all of this are good run of creators.

One thing that bothered me is a lack of comprehensive rules.

At the end of my post I decide to publish a pair of qestions:
1. Ship enters play, when I place it on table, isn't it? Or must I wait unless it become fully
assembled, and then it enters play?
2. When I target to warp to the Tierijev Pocket, my opp paid ISK and played his ability. Can I warp this ship to another region? I think, yes, because battle phase don't begin and management phase continues. But I want itemize this question.

Re:Questions with kind regards from Russia - 2007/10/29 11:49 Ships enter play when they appear on the table but ships in dock can't be targetted by actions or news though they can still be effected by effects that don't specifically target them.

You can warp your ship into another region as it has not warped into an enemy held region.

Regarding the different destroyed wording. Each is correct and lets you know when you can use that card. Destroy target card may be used at any time on any card (except outer regions); Destroy target card in play only allows you to remove a card that is current being used with, once again, the exception of outer regions; and Destroy target card that is being played is only usable against cards being brought into play but not yet in play (i.e. still on the stack).

Re:Questions with kind regards from Russia - 2007/10/30 07:58 1. Pator Tech School:
Pay the clone cost of target friendly character: The character becomes a pilot on a friendly ship of your choice or an agent in dock.

Just a one question: When can I use this ability?
When this character in play, in scrapheap, etc. I think, this ability works as "character transhipping".

2. Concord SWAT Officer:
Sentry. [A] When this ship patrols another ship, prevent all damage that ship deals until end of turn. [G] When dealt damage by an enemy ship, Concord SWAT Officer deals equal damage to that ship. Patrol 1.

This ship, that ship, and I strays. That, how I mean this card: [A] When my ship patrols another, I prevent all damage another ship deals until end of turn. [G] When this my ship is dealt damage by an enemy ship, my ship hits this enemy ship back. Am I right?

Re:Questions with kind regards from Russia - 2007/10/30 11:37 1. Pator Tech School is an interesting one. As it does not specifically specify where the characters are you can get them from anywhere, my only concern would be around the work targetting and whether you can target cards in your market and scrape heap. Not used the card so not 100% on this.

2. The Amarr ability means that the ship targetted with patrol can do no damage, not even if it has an ability that allows it to, for that turn. The Gallante one works as you think, a ship does 3 damage to Swat Officer it recieves 3 damage automatically. The Swat Officer own damage can be assigned as you wish.

Re:Questions with kind regards from Russia - 2007/10/30 13:33 1. Clone cost equaled 0 (for example, Ahremen Arkah clone cost) means, that I may used it free. I'm not sure, so am I right?
2. Continue topic about Pator Tech School. And return to terminology of the game. What is it say to us?
Target
If the word “target” appears in an ability or on a news card, it can only be played if it has a legal target. The legal target is defined on the appropriate card.

That's all. It isn't clear.
I think, we can't find character in the market, cause it's another game word...
Corporate Hangar Array:
...you may search your market for a character card...

What's about "in scrapheap", hmmm... I think, miss of a collocation "put into the play" means, that I can't target a character in the scrapheap.
Finally, I want a clear definitions of all game termins. Neither more nor less than. And I'll be happy.
Say what you think. Think what you say.

Re:Questions with kind regards from Russia - 2007/10/30 23:32 1. Clone cost = 0
Yes, you can play this ability for free, everytime that agent pilots a ship and this ship is destroyed, because that is the only time you can activate the clone ability.

2. Target = friendly character
You can target any friendly character. But in order to be a legal target that character has to be IN PLAY. You can not target a character in your deck, your hand, your scrapheap or any face down character card on the table like cards below "Eve Gate" or something like that.
So "Pator Tech School" allows you to take a friendly character piloting a ship and put it into another ship or your dock. And you can put that character from your dock into a ship, too. In order to do so you have to play that character's cloning cost - no cost for the above example.
Nothing is as simple as it looks.
