How does one arrange events at Cons? - 2007/12/11 11:32It is a bit short notice, but there is a Con coming up in my area in late January. Is it possible to be able to get in and arrange a demo event at such short notice?
If so, is there anything I should know? A local store 'donated' to me what was left from an event kit they had. So, I have starter decks, and the demo mat.
The Con is ComicCon in Mesa(Phoenix), AZ. Several CCGs are featured.
If schedules allow, I know that Karash and I would like to be able to inspire some potential players there.
At this point the booths (which were cheap) are sold out. But I have posted a question on the forum about being able to demo games impromptu.

Re:How does one arrange events at Cons? - 2007/12/11 12:42Aside from talking to the ComicCon organisers directly, a good place to start for answering your questions is this post about rewards for 'Agents' at conventions. Other than that, the man to speak to is Agent Zero, the dedicated CCP/WW Organised Play Coordinator. You can PM him here on the site. As well as pointing you in the right direction with things like demo materials, he's sure to be a mine of useful information about how to make your demonstrating more effective. There's also sample demo scripts and suchlike available under the "Agent Resources" tab over on the left...
I wouldnt worry too much about not being able to get a booth. So long as you can arrange a dedicated play area (i.e. a load of tables) then you can run demos. It might be a good idea to get some tables close to where other CCG events are happening, that way players from other games can come over for a nosey in between rounds of whatever tournament they're at.
Finally, I would suggest taking some measures to get yourself noticed. Draw up a banner or something to display over your demo area so's folks know where to find the EVE-CCG games. There's also been a lot of custom-made flyers posted on the forums that other players have put together. Hijack a few of these, update them with your convention's details and hand them out to all-and-sundry, or speak to the event organisers to see if you can get some flyers added to people's swag bags.
Probably the most important and effective thing you can do is be enthusiastic about the game. This would act as a good ice-breaker to convince people to have a look. If you can pique their interest initially and get people to check it out, this fantastic game will practically sell itself to them...

They said that they would love it if we did a demo there....that it would be a natural match, since White Wolf was going to have a team there doing some other demos.
