Re:Gen Con So Cal Tournament - 2006/11/29 00:29I just wanted to say that Zack ran a great tournament...it was alot of fun, And I was really surprised that they gave out all the prizes listed even though we had such a small turnout. Very Cool!! Also wanted to mention that everyone else in the tournament was really cool, making the whole event enjoyable!Blatherskite Caldari Propagandist

Were many of the players established players, or were there a lot of people who made decks on-the-day so to speak?

Re:Gen Con So Cal Tournament - 2006/11/29 17:51I wandered around looking for an eve comp, and didn't see one...did get a demo game at the booth though.

Re:Gen Con So Cal Tournament - 2006/11/29 18:36Seven people turned out for the tournament on Saturday, two of whom had little to no play experience. The format was changed to round robin, to give everyone more play experience, and generally to make it more fun. The atmosphere was very relaxed, and the experienced players took the time to offer deck critiques and advice to the two newbies.
Like Blatherskite said, I decided to give out the full prize amount, despite the low turnout. You guys do a lot for the game already, and you deserve all the support we can give you. Zack Walters EVE: The Second Genesis Organized Play Coordinator White Wolf | CCP North America

Re:Gen Con So Cal Tournament - 2006/11/29 21:29I wish I could have made it, but I was stretching just to send my wife Noel out to work the Minis Painting area this year. Next year I'll do better. I hear she at least coralled Zack for awhile, so I was there by proxy.
...of course, if I'd realized how slight the competition was going to be, I might have come out and banked on winning enough of the prize money to cover my trip! -Ryuteki, Owner of the Rules! Re:Gen Con So Cal Tournament - 2006/11/30 10:57The tournament was a great way to get up to speed with the game. I hadn't been able to spend much time on Eve before So Cal as I had a pro tournament to prepare for.
Zack was also kind enough to give top 4 worlds qualifications (rather than make three of us fight it out for the 2nd spot) so we've all got an excuse to go to GenCon Indy now.
The Sunday tournament was a laugh too, I managed to lose to three different people playing my decks

Heh, I was wondering if you'd catch that slight. *wink*-Ryuteki, Owner of the Rules! We're playing Monday evenings in IL, see www.games-plus.com for the address or email me at ryuteki AT gmail DOT com.

Re:Gen Con So Cal Tournament - 2006/12/06 18:34I sent in a friend to get me set up with a starter deck but he couldn't even find the EVE group.
Is there places to buy cards in SoCal besides Game Empire in San Diego? I live in Orange County so San Diego is a bit of a drive.

Re:Gen Con So Cal Tournament - 2006/12/06 19:14Not sure how far it is from you, but The Game Zone in Pasadena just reopened as Game Empire Pasadena. You might want to check them out (and pimp the game there ).Zack Walters EVE: The Second Genesis Organized Play Coordinator White Wolf | CCP North America
