My First Gallente Deck - 2007/02/26 12:07So, I have to admit that I'm quite a big fan of the Minmatar. I have the shirt, I play a Minmatar in Eve Online, and I wrote an article on a play style. However, after beating my brother (aka the person I play-test my decks against) repeatedly with my Minmatar deck without loss, I decided to try a new deck instead.
He'd just spent a few hours working on some new decks, so I thought I'd try out a Gallente deck. The Iteron looked cool, and I have 2 Superior Iteron cards, so I thought I'd try my hands at that deck. I decided not to lookup how other people were handling this type of deck.
After building the deck, I came to the conclusion that it was a very weak deck, and would not fair well . Surprisingly, I was very wrong, and it has turned out to be one of the stronger decks that I have seen.
Starbase Structures: 2x Central Fleet Command 1x Incubation Dome 1x The Crystal Boulevard 2x Labor Quarters
That's all. I found this deck runs very fast, a fame never lasts more than 10 turns, ever. The Central Fleet Commands work great for when you have 7 Iterons out, and maybe an Augorer; you just fly all of your 1/3's and badger the enemy base. It would probably do very well against my Minmatar decks, but I have not tried those yet. The main premise of this deck was to use Gunningap, not the Iterons. I wanted a very nice income from Gunningap, so I first picked out all of my locations. Then I figured I'd use the Iterons, and built everything else around that.
There are a few aspects of this deck that could easily improve, but since I don't actually have the cards they are not in the deck. Really this means throwing out The Crystal Boulevard, and Incubation dome for another 2 Central Fleet Commands. Also, I've not found the Labor Quarters all that useful, so I'd throw them out for more The Universe Is Too Small and/or Armageddon Projects.
News: 2x The Universe Is Too Small 2x Armageddon Project 2x Veteran's Premature Retirement
Starbase Structures: 4x Central Fleet Command 2x Labor Quarters (possibly get rid of for more land destruction or Forgotton Paradise, to increase speed for placing Iterons).
Locations: 4x Sublet Stations 4x Remote Research Facilities 4x Omber 4x Mercenary Base

Re:My First Gallente Deck - 2007/02/26 22:36Some first impressions, not having played the deck, nor against it.
I found the Iteron chain to be slow and unreliable. Even with aggressive mulligans, I was without an Inferior Iteron in the frist three turns maybe half the time. Inferior Iterons are also Limited, so you can't play a limited location the same turn as an Iteron. Of course Omber and Remote Research Facility can help you get locations into the scrapheap, and hence into Ginnunagap, but at 0/3, any number of Iterons can be driven off by a 3/5 Tristan, say.
I found the regular Iteron nigh worthless as well. Cost 6 ISK, Assembly I, to slow, and not worth the effort. The Superior Iteron seems appealling, being able to Trade 5 at home, and trade even if income is skipped, but at 10 ISK and Assembly I, it takes three turns just to break even, not a good investment.
If you are looking for a third region, "just in case," I would recommend Stain. This nifty region acts as a counter for both region and anti-region strategies. As we say locally, "The Fate of Stain is the Fate of our Nation!"
I do like Velators for early region holding, as Retaliate 2 will mutually annhihilate most opening game frigates. The Augoror is one of my favorite ships.
You might consider replacing a couple of those locations with By The Emperor's Decree, effectively shrinking your deck size. Like Remote Research Facilities and Omber, it can help get outer locations into the scrapheap. The main premise of this deck was to use Gunningap, not the Iterons. I wanted a very nice income from Gunningap, so I first picked out all of my locations. Then I figured I'd use the Iterons, and built everything else around that. This is how you build a deck. Decide what you want to play with, and build the rest of the deck around that. I've bought a lot of cards, and I intend to get my money's worth out of them. This kind of deck building is one way that new tactics and strategies get invented and refined. It may not work out like we expect, but we invariably learn something.

Re:My First Gallente Deck - 2007/03/01 06:15doh! you're right, I had not noticed the Inferior was limited; I didn't even check! That completely changes this deck into sucking

Re:My First Gallente Deck - 2007/03/01 22:32I think this can be made to work, it just needs to slow down the opponent some to withstand the probable rush.
Right now, I am experimenting with two other idea, No Regions and Mutual Annihilation, so I am not really thinking about this style as much, but with some non-Limited locations, more base defense and alternate ISK generation.
It can be done, I think, but not quickly.
