Legends Comics and Games is hosting a North American Qualifier for EVE: Second Genesis, Saturday, May 12th, at our store in the Cupertino Square/Vallco Fashion Park shopping mall, from 1 PM to 5 PM. Three rounds swiss, or 4 rounds to 6 PM if lots of players. There is a nominal $3.00 entry fee.
Legends Comics and Games, 10123 N. Wolfe Road (at Stevens Creek) Suite #2108 (Between Sears and the AMC theatre) Cupertino, CA 95014 408/996-7640 Smeelbo@yahoo.com.
We have two strong players confirmed for attendance, Frank 'Orange Guy' Trollman, and Mike Robinson, first place winner of the DundraCon 31 EVE Tournament. I will be there for your taunting pleasure as well (but only as a referee).
Can you beat the inventor of the Gallente Anti-Region Deck in mano-y-mano action?
There are prizes and players to meet, some please come on!

Re:May 12th, ESG Qualifier, Cupertino, CA - 2007/05/15 18:24While the turn-out was not as large as I'd hoped (not only did I know every participant, I had also sold them their cards), the tournament went well. The decks that dominated our local metagame predictably dominated the tournament as well. First Place was Frank Trollman's Gallente Anti-Region deck, while Second Place was Mike Robinson's Amarr Anti-Region deck. Hired Enforcers played important roles in several of their victories, especially Robinson's. Third Place was Tim Brown's eclectic Gallente deck made from a starter and a bunch of excess commons. This deck beat some decks with much more access to cards, and Tim Brown showed notable sportsmanship in the face of some rude behavior.
A big surprise was the absence of Minmatar decks. Stain saw a lot of play, which moderately frustrated the anti-region decks, but they overcame it.
I am working on strategies to increase our outreach. KublaCon is coming up, and I am going to try to reach out to new players there. I am looking forward to Exile, and hope there will be some prerelease tournaments. I am also thinking of making some psuedo-starter out of excess cards, and giving some of those away.

Re:May 12th, ESG Qualifier, Cupertino, CA - 2007/05/15 18:50We did give some thought to flying out from Chicago, but we'd never have made it back in time for the Mother's Day Barbeque I had planned. Maybe next time. -Ryuteki, Owner of the Rules! We're playing Monday evenings in IL, see www.games-plus.com for the address or email me at ryuteki AT gmail DOT com.

Re:May 12th, ESG Qualifier, Cupertino, CA - 2007/05/15 20:12I am wondering where in the U.S. the strongest EVE community is. I might have some free time and some frequent flyer miles, but I don't think I can make it to GenCon, alas.
I will keep an eye out, and see what I can learn. Right now, our community is just who I've sold cards to.
