The Exiled: How to Get Involved - 2007/05/31 20:59With the release of The Exiled only a few shorts weeks away, it’s time to start planning demos and events. ESG is still very much a niche game at the moment, but with your help I think we can bring it to the forefront of the market. A number of players have already stepped forward and volunteered to take on the mantle of “Agent,” but I’m going to need more help if we’re going to make this release truly stand out.
How You Can Help There are many ways you can help EVE grow, both as an Agent and as a player.
1. Ask the owner/manager of your local game shop to order The Exiled. If a shop knows its customers are interested in a product, they will be much more willing to give it a try. If the shop hasn’t carried the game in the past, you can also mention the New Store Kit that is being offered with this release. In addition to the starter and booster displays necessary for a 16-person limited event, it also contains information about running the game in the store and advertising materials. You can also feel free to give the manager/owner my email address and phone number, if they have any questions you can’t answer.
2. Offer to demonstrate the game in the store. I have put together a brand new demo kit that is, as I write this, being disseminated to the various hobby distribution companies around the globe. The shop can order a free kit from their distributor of choice (stock code WW11051). The kits contain 16 25-card demo decks, 6 playmats and 2 demo scripts—enough materials to entice people to participate in the limited format prerelease events for The Exiled. If the shop is unable to get a kit from their distributor(s), then they (or you) can contact me to have one shipped directly from our warehouse.
3. Organize and judge a prerelease event. Many stores that are otherwise interested in supporting a game do not do so simply because they lack the manpower to run events, but if players step and offer to run events for them, most shops can’t say “yes” fast enough. While this option is the most work, it is also the most rewarding. And if multiple judges are chosen before the tournament begins, the organizer may still participate. Additionally, if you run an event, you can use the tournament software to track and record each player’s results. You can then email these results to me, and I will update the Glicko scores of everyone who played in the event.
What You Can Receive I want to reward you for your help, so there are a few incentives that have been put in place.
1. By asking about and playing in events, you will receive not only the new Exiled cards needed to play, but you can also win some new promo cards that will only be given out for this release.
2. Running demos of EVE not only creates more players (making events a lot more varied and interesting), but it can also earn you a spot at the Championship at Gen Con Indy in August! All you need to do is demonstrate the game to 20 people who sign up for the player database, and then send me their information for verification, and you will qualify to compete for the big cash prizes.
3. Agents who organize tournaments are the best-rewarded. As I promised earlier, they receive a $.50 USD credit in the EVE Online Store for each player attending the event. The players will have to be signed up on the player database, and their scores will have to be recorded and submitted with the tournament software for verification. Store credit is only awarded for tournaments with eight or more people in attendance, but there’s no upper limit on the reward.

- Did you send some of the new demo kits to Dusseldorf? We are exactly planning what you suggested here - a small demo event before Exiled release and a release tournament later on. (We asked she shopkeeper and my brother and me will run it)
- Is there a real Player database available now? I remember the discussions about it month ago, but I still can't find it?
- Store credit is pretty much useless for someone outside the US, can you send out another promo card or something in those cases?
- as said before we plan something like that already, so what do we have to do, to receive those bonuses? Just talk to you? If so, expect me to be on IRC tonight
I'm thinking of trying to put another event together on the weekend 30th June / 1st July... Maybe I can drag the rest of the swiss community there (if they start answering my mails).

Are you referring to the weekend of the 30th June/1st July or the 7th/8th July? Also btw most retailers in the UK don't receive their goods from the distributor until the end of the week of release.
Is it possible to obtain product early in an attempt to hold a pre-release draft, as per the philosophy normally adopted by WW for V:TES?
Also, have you thought about trying to get some of the new set as prizes or promos out to the EVE Open being held at Game07 in Manchester the week before the release? (see www.game07.co.uk)

We expect to have the prerelease materials out before the official release date of the first full weekend in July (6-8), but I'm waiting on word from the printer about this. Re:The Exiled: How to Get Involved - 2007/06/05 14:59As I was reading the demo script to prepare a demo session, I remembered and noticed that there was talking about a bonus for signing up to the player database (special outer region) - was this canceled completely or is this still planned for the future? If not you should remove it from the demoscript maybe

I would like an answer on availability as soon as possible, so I can arrange and announce a pre-release, or even post-release, for Exiled.
