UK Pre-Release? - 2007/06/17 12:40As many of us know, Exiled is only around the corner, and there are pre-releases available the weekend before, Saturday 7th or Sunday 8th July. Now, currently there is nowhere in the UK hosting an Exile pre-release.
I would like to change that.
Some of you may know, and others may not, but if a venue gets 12 participants for an event, CCP will send out FREE money to the top players. As I recall is it is $100 for the Top 4. Now, based upon my observation of UK Games Expo in Birmingham earlier this month with only 8 players, getting 12 people into one venue at once will be difficult for us in the UK.
I would like to host a pre-release for England, as those in Scotland and Ireland may find it a bit of a travel, though I would happily have people travel. Those in Wales, it is not too far to travel - I myself travel to Cardiff and Rhyl several times a year.
I am based in Coventry, in the West Midlands. By being in the middle of the country, it gives the greatest accessibility for those who need to travel. By train most would transfer at Birmingham, with a short hop to Coventry. By car all the signs on the motorway to "The Midlands" direct to Coventry when close enough, with ample car parking. For those flying, Coventry even has its own airport, though if you cannot fly to it, once again you can fly to Birmingham and then catch the train across again.
Now, this may seem egotistical on my part, however I really enjoy the game and would like to ensure we have a fantastic pre-release.
I would run it on Sunday 8th July, at 12pm, to allow people time to travel, as well as not feel rushed for an 11am or earlier start.
A pre-release kit gives me enough stock for 12 people - two displays of Exiles and two displays of Second Genesis, as well as 40 promo cards.
Now, would enough people be interested in this event? If so, I will order the kit and get advertising so everyone knows.
In addition, I, as well as three of my local gamers, will be partaking in the EVE Open at Game 07 later this month - Where I will be hopefully not loosing too badly!Bishop Games, Coventry - The place for EVE and other games in the Midlands.

Re:UK Pre-Release? - 2007/06/18 09:49BishopGames is a great venue and only a few minutes walk from the train station. Subject to rail engineeering works, I'd be happy to travel up to Cov if we're expecting 12 players.
I'd suggest waiting until after Game'07 to book the kit. You'll have a much better feel for the level of support by then.
With a bit of luck we'll convert a few more Vs players on the Sunday...

My concern with waiting is I do not want to risk leaving it too late and find out I cannot order a kit.
In regards to rail travel, as long as we stop getting flooded with rain, there should not be any problems.Bishop Games, Coventry - The place for EVE and other games in the Midlands.

Lol, I keep hearing about this rain but we're not seeing much in London.
There doesn't seem to be any Euston to Coventry trains that day. The alternative is the 09:15 from Marlebone getting in at 11:50 (via leamington Spa).

Re:UK Pre-Release? - 2007/06/19 12:00My diary is pretty rammed (and my wallet pretty stretched) as it is ATM, so I'll probably pass on a visit to Coventry
(I would however be up for an event in the South-East)

If you let me know what time the train gets in to Leamington I can pick you up and drive you to Cov, seening as I have to go from Leam myself. I would offer a place to crash Sat night, unfortunately i'm in Bristol that night.
Cheers

Re:UK Pre-Release? - 2007/07/04 14:08Given the delay in the release of the Exiled is it possible to get a confirmation of a date for the pre-release tournaments? We shall seed the stars with our scions and reap that harvest.

Re:UK Pre-Release? - 2007/07/24 22:30Whilst there are rumours of a date, we have not been given a confirmed date - As such, we cannot assign a date for the tournament. I would not want to pick a date that it is likely to be, only to have it changed and cancelled again.Bishop Games, Coventry - The place for EVE and other games in the Midlands.

Re:UK Pre-Release? - 2007/07/25 09:52If the new date is the 11th/12th or 18th/19th then I might be up for it after all.
(And it if slips to 1st/2nd Sept we'll have to organise one at GenCon UK)

Re:UK Pre-Release? - 2007/08/13 20:46With the dates as they are i'm thinking an event at Gencon would be the best way to go as that would probably draw the biggest crowd of players. It might be a bit much to ask players to travel the week before then head to gencon. So Mike is there anything we can get planned.

Well Esdevium are actually running the WW/CCP support and I'm just going along as a volunteer. We'll be running Exiled demos all weekend but I'm not sure if we'll have enough space on the stand to run our own tournaments (I'm waiting to find out). Plan B would be to grab some spare tables elsewhere on each day and then run constructed or limited sealed events on the sly. Can I get a show of hands on who would play if there were events on the Sat and/or the Sun?
