Re:UK Pre-Release? - 2007/08/16 11:47 Sunday would be better for me, as I will be playing UFS on the Saturday.

It's a shame that with all the problems with release, an event for Gencon could not be organised further in advance.

Also, whilst I know that no-one ever picked up this game to win money, will there ever be enough people in one place for an UK event to earn money? After seeing only 8 people for the European Open in Manchester, and a similar number in Birmingham in June, I have my doubts if seeing a 12 player UK event!

Agreed!

I personally think that most people would be keen, but as you mentioned, we need to give players sufficient notice. The Infamously-Botched Dragonmeet last year would have had 12+ players easily, but at the time there was a lot of confusion over who was actually doing the organising. By the time everyone realised that no-one had pulled their finger out of their hole when they said they would, it was too late to re-invigorate people's interest.

I would go to any tourney that was hoping to attract 8+ players, if only for the chance to possibly meet up again with the lads i met at the Opens in Manchester. But to be honest i'm getting pretty apathetic about the lack of comparable support / incentives in Europe from the company. I think they're far too focused on Stateside stuff and are alienating players from the rest of the world...

Re:UK Pre-Release? - 2007/08/17 11:45 Unfortunately the rest of the world outside the US is mainly seen as a secondary market for CCG's in general. We just don't buy enough to justify the same level of support. That said having a world wide player base does mean that EVE is more likely to survive and flourish. People from different background bring different perspectives and ideas to CCG's and help create a more balanced enviroments.

Supporting those people who are willing to go out and promote the game should be the main focus for them and not show any basis. Unfortunately this does not seem the case as, for example, I sent a mail at the beginning of the week asking for some help in promoting a demo of EVE at my local store. I've yet to hear anything back. While I can understand they are busy with the latest American GenCon it would only take a couple of minutes to reply.

I do hope that in 2008 that Europe does get a good level of support. I've know players before to drop out of games they have enjoyed because of the differences in support between the US and Europe. I hope that EVE does not fall into that trap.

Re:UK Pre-Release? - 2007/08/18 03:11 Wow, I don't know what you guys are thinking, but here in NYC, I have gone to 3 main shops and asked if they sell EVE and the answer is NO. I went to The Compleate Strategist, which is a reputable store and has all different type of card games, and they told me something very interesting.

When EVE was introduced in that store, it did it at the same time as WarCraft. Guess who won...And since no one was interested in EVE, they returned the merchandise. Now, I don't know if that happened all across the US, and maybe one of you knows this, but from their story, EVE's release in the US was not very well thought out.

Based on what I've read in this thread, I will do a quick survey of card stores in NYC and see if they are selling EVE. It'll take me a little while, but I'll get back to you all with results.

Re:UK Pre-Release? - 2007/08/20 13:58 EVE went head to head against WoW across the world and came out second place. Where EVE had done well is where the players have put the effort in to get other people interested in the game. I would not be surprised if there are no main shops stocking EVE in New York City as they would have not kept stock if there was no interest in the game and at the time all attention was on the release of WoW which was getting hugh publicity because of the large player base of it online game and them linking the 2 together. We shall seed the stars with our scions and reap that harvest.
