What happens to locations of a destroyed starbase - 2006/11/07 00:16This only matters with more than two players. Since I can't find any rules that state otherwise, I am assuming that when a starbase is destroyed, all the starbase structures attached to it are also destoryed.
However, what happens to locations, is less obvious. (1) The starbase had the max number of locations on it, so does this mean that no more locations can be played there? (2) How about existing locations, they now exceed the location limit, so are they destroyed as well? (3) Can the remaining players warp to the eliminated player's home location? (4) Are ships already in the eliminated player's home location required to warp out?

I have yet to play a game with three or more players, but if I had, my gut reaction would be that the defeated player's home region and all locations in it are removed, but any other regions or locations they played stay in play. My reasons are these: 1) A home region without a starbase has no special abilities - boring. 2) Locations are split between home-region playable and outer-regeon only cards, the idea being that any location you play in your home region will never be controlled by your opponent(s). It's obvious that you can't remove all cards owned by the defeated player; that has the potential of putting some of their opponents' ships in no-man's land.
I could be wrong, of course, but if I had to play a multi-player game tomorrow, that's how I'd run it

Classic CCG - when a player loses, all cards he owns are removed from the game. This includes outer regions. Ships in those regions are returned to their owners' dock.
Eve-Oriented - when a player loses, all cards he owns except outer regions are removed from the game.
Eve-Oriented 2 - what Blatherskite said.
Like with most games, multiplayer is a matter of personal preference as to how you play it.

Re:What happens to locations of a destroyed starba - 2006/11/07 15:46Ok, so in the absence of an 'official' ruling I will just go with the most sensible one, which seems to be Eve Oriented 2/Blatherskite/CrayNium.
It does make sense that multiplayer games would allow more flexibility than tournament style.
The other big multiplayer choice is do you allow ISK to be traded freely for a more diplomatic game, or no ISK trading for a more tactical game.

Re:What happens to locations of a destroyed starba - 2006/11/08 09:22I would agree that all locations (and starbase structures) on a starbase should leave play when that starbase is destroyed, but I would prefer to see that all outer regions and associated locations played by that player remain in play until the end of the game. As far as ISK trading goes, I would prefer to see that facilitated by specific card effects rather than a general house rule.

Re:What happens to locations of a destroyed starba - 2006/11/08 11:03If it's purely for fun, introduce a new 'always in play' outer region called 'Trade Hub' or somesuch. Allow players with ships there to freely give ISK in their turn, up to a maximum amount of the total ISK cost of theie ships in that region (cargo space!). Make this region non-combative, ie, no combat ever takes place there, and ships there cannot be targetted, just as if they were docked. Ships that warp there, or warp away from there, cannot warp again in the same turn. That means you have a ship out of action for at least a turn in order to trade ISK.
