2nd Place, Indy - Sledge Hammer - 2007/08/23 13:42We went for a fairly solid build that uses Mind Control and Damage Control to keep your opponent's tricks at bay. Unfortunately they don't help much against Astro Labs and Iterons...
The 8 anti-news maindecked seems a bit much to me... I'd run 4 Damage Control and 2 Mind Control. I love playing Hired Enforcers then Damage Controlling it back to hand for recast
Why the 3 Ombers in the sidedeck?

Re:2nd Place, Indy - Sledge Hammer - 2007/08/28 14:40Ours was one of the few match where I didn't sideboard out the Tourist Resourts for Omber.
The resort income engine is more powerful but was a liability against decks that start playing ships turn 1 (which seemed to be everyone).
Most decks have atleast four news cards that cost zero, the mind controls won a few games.
The Thrashers were lame, I didn't use their text once (even against the one Minmatar player I faced).

Re:2nd Place, Indy - Sledge Hammer - 2007/08/28 16:38Dtee right on about his Ombers. In the second game his income was much better as he saw a couple of those monsters early. Nice deck btw.Blatherskite Caldari Propagandist

Re:2nd Place, Indy - Sledge Hammer - 2007/08/28 20:44I sat there and watched DTee's play and deck in the semi-finals and finals (I was the guy in the RIP ODB shirt) and was more impressed with his actual play. The deck was solid no doubt, but DTee definately got to the finals on his playing skill and lack of mistakes more than anything.
Well done DTee

I suppose Omber is also useful for those games where you've either got one too many Sancha's Scout Outpost or anti-news in hand as well. Also combos nicely with Ginnungigap if you are ready to take it and discard a location (Sancha's) to go play there

Other than all the core-set anti-structure cards, there is a news card called Overload in Exiled, it turns positive bonuses on the target ship into negatives if they come from a card other than the ship itself. It will be a very good magic bullet vs. Astrolabs and Hired Enforcers.-Ryuteki, Owner of the Rules! Re:2nd Place, Indy - Sledge Hammer - 2007/08/30 18:45It also turns your own Hired Enforcers into slightly-more-magical bullets themselves

Sure.. but then you are spending 6 ISK and 2 cards on accomplishing the same thing you could get for 5-7 ISK and 1 card (Vets Retirement or Pirate Mercenaries for my Gallante).-Ryuteki, Owner of the Rules! Re:2nd Place, Indy - Sledge Hammer - 2007/08/31 12:30But it's more like 1.5 cards because you can ditch a card you don't need to retrieve Hired Enforcers. And you kill their ship, not bounce it. And it's doable by Amarr. And Overload is still a great card to draw without Hired Enforcers in your hand already. And I like mint-chocolate-chip ice cream. And I just woke up.
So in conclusion: good morning

*nod* Really the only thing I don't love about overload is, trying to find deck space for it. -Ryuteki, Owner of the Rules! We're playing Monday evenings in IL, see www.games-plus.com for the address or email me at ryuteki AT gmail DOT com.

Re:2nd Place, Indy - Sledge Hammer - 2007/08/31 13:14I don't think I've seen anyone manage to cram so much tech and humour into a few lines before
Personally I'm running neither Overload nor Hired Enforcers in the updated version at the moment. I think it's become a case of both or neither and there are so many other yummy flavours available* that it's hard to find room in a 52" freezer.
DTee * Cookies & Cream is top of the list. Or forzen Strawberry Yogurt for a low fat alternative.

Re:2nd Place, Indy - Sledge Hammer - 2007/08/31 14:57I can see two distinct uses for Overload- a sideboard card against Hired Enforcers, and a kill-card that packs multiple Hired Enforces and Specializations and the like into an anti-ship nightmare of a deck. Toss in Pirate Merc, Blood Raiders, Dismantle, Cult, and your choice of seasonings, and the opponent better have a LOT of ships to drag you down with.
Or one news-immune one... hrm. Back to the drawing board.

Martial Law or Sensor's Office works too. The inability to target docked ships helps stop ship destruction decks getting out of hand.
