Characters - 2007/09/06 15:25I was wondering how you guys were doing with characters. I managed to modify my Amarr deck with some of them and was surprised at how good they can get.
My 1st concern was: "What do I get rid of in my deck to include characters?" I didn't really answer that yet so I'm running a 55 cards deck right now, hehe.
2nd concern was: "Which characters will turn out to be handy?" I can't say I tested a lot of them (only 2 actualy) cause I don't have lots of them yet and some have racial affinities that just don't work with Amarr.
Anyway, this is what I ended up including in my deck: 2 x Tairei Namazoth AMARR When Tairei Namazoth comes into play, search your market for an asteroid field location, reveal it and put it in your hand. Then shuffle your market.
AGENT All ships are limited (only one limited card can be played during each turn.)
PILOT Tairei Namazoth's ship gets +1 shield.
3 x Kaikka Peunato AGENT When your home region is attacked, you may hasten the assembly of one friendly ship by one turn. If it becomes fully assembled, you may warp it into your home region.
PILOT When Kaikka Peunato's ship deals damage to a starbase which has a current shield value higher than its printed shield value, the ship deals 1 more damage to it.
I must say that both are just working great with my long-assembly-strong-stats ships (Omen/Blood Warmonger/Guardian and a few others). I was usualy dominating on fire power but had troubles keeping with the pace in pre-Exiled games. So here's my
Tairei can speed up your income by getting some Solid Pyro on the field (or potentialy Arkonor) and is INCREDIBLY strong against fast players who falls down to playing either 1 ship or 1 limited location. No more "I play 2-3 ships this turn and you die next...oh and I forgot to play that Veldspar too!". On top of that, the limitation Tairei brings only affect opponents since you can turn her into a pilot, play your cards and then dock her again for the agent ability.
As for Kaikka, this is really a butt-saver. The opponent has to add the ships in assembly when considering attacking. If he attacks, he's speeding your game, if he doesn't, you bought time for more ships.
Anyway, I just wanted to start a thread on the new avenues that characters are adding...

Re:Characters - 2007/09/06 17:57I've had some real success with Vespas Minimala. His Agent ability is great for finding that one card you need sooner rather than later, and his ambush is perfect for protecting early miners (a Velator with Vespas on it is a really prickly little guy- need more than your average Frigate to survive taking it out). Finally, his pilot ability is great for when you really, really don't want to deal with a particular ship this turn... or have to shove a Guardian or similarly hard-to-kill ship off an outer region.

...especially when I'm playing Minmatar, play 4 Night Shift Sectors, upgrade to the Frailty Tower, and pay 1 ISK to draw a card as many times as I want (yes yes I know, it's a very frail *pun intended* strategy)

Re:Characters - 2007/09/07 09:54Can you have more than one of the same character in play at the same time? I did a (very) quick scan through the rule book and found nothing about it. But it seems odd to have more then one of the same person...

I imagined characters to be kind of like legendary creatures in Magic, ony one of them same kind alowed in play at a time. Oh well, I know better now

The question of multiple identical Characters in play is something that I find very odd. As both an EVE Online player and ex Star Trek CCG player I would find it unnatural to have the same Character running around 2,3 or 4 times at once.
