Question on Management and Battle Phase - 2006/11/09 17:24Ok first, the Management Phase. The rulebook says, "During your management phase, you may do any or all of the following as many times as you want, and in any order." Now for the player himself, it's self explanatory and very common to see this. But the way it's worded makes it slightly confusing. With the new errata about docking and undocking being a warp action, it makes is slightly more confusing to me. The example provided has someone play a Velator, immediately move to a region and activate a command. So I've been playing it that way with a few friends, but the errata has just confused me. Does each ship only get one action a turn? If so, it making undocking and docking a warp move make sense, otherwise, I must be missing something.
Next Battle Phase. Are ships that are currently using active commands such as Ambush, Patrol and Mining part of the Battle? I would assume they would be, but one of my buddies brought up the point that if it were actually happening and those ships were actually out doing those things, they'd be somewhere else away from the fleet. Just a little unsure of that.
And as an afterthought, is sacrificing a location part of the cost for Scordite. If it's the first location you play, you clearly have nothing to sacrifice. Traditionally, my friends and I have played, "If it says sacrifice something and you don't have it, you don't have to sacrifice otherwise it would be listed with the cost." A little bit of a silly way to play now that I'm reading it, but all the same. Can Scordite come out on the first turn knowing you can't sacrifice?
Thanks for the answers!

Re:Question on Management and Battle Phase - 2006/11/09 19:221: Ships get as many actions as they want a turn, but the second they move to an enemy held location they stop and wait for the Battle Phase to occur.
2: All ships in a location (except docked ships at starbase) are considered in the battle. They only leave if they withdraw or an effect removes them from that location. Also, ships can not warp while a command is active and they must deactivate it.
3: When Scordite comes into play you MUST sacrifice a location. As Scordite is now in play when you resolve this text, it is a valid target and if it is your ONLY location it will be sacrificed.

Attacking a region and not forcing the other player out, through withdrawl or through the destruction of his ships, is a common tactic of mine.
You see, there is no reason you can't warp a ship into a region and attack the industrial ships. Totally bypass his/her warships and go straight to his ISK generating ships. You're going to get hammered by his warships, of course. So don't go throwing away good ships. A cheap ship, usually one with high power and low defense is best. The Slasher and Breacher are exceptional at attacking industrial ships, since its Kamakazi enables them to get past enemy ships that are patrolling in that area.
