Multiple Characters - 2007/09/11 07:48 I've come across an interesting question regarding the new rules for characters.

Is it possible to have multiple characters piloting the same ship? Logic would dictate that you can't, but as far as I can tell there is nothing in the rules that prohibits it.

Some characters have very potent abilities, and are not easily countered like news. If you can stack their abilities up then I think you'd see some fairly devastating combinations.

Stabber + Frailty Tower + Multiple Tuvan Orth anyone?

Re:Multiple Characters - 2007/09/11 08:10 Don't believe so

From the rules:

When you warp a ship from your dock to your home region, you may choose to have a character from your dock pilot that ship

"a character" meaning the singular

Re:Multiple Characters - 2007/09/11 12:10 I think they could have worded that way better if that was the meaning.

We have played it with allowing multiple characters per ship (even if that doesn't make any sense) and it does seem a bit broken.

One character per ship makes some of these character's special abilities a little more bearable.

Re:Multiple Characters - 2007/09/11 13:21 I don't think that one is worded too bad.

There are however pilots (and news?) you can assign to ships through their own powers, I don't believe the rules stop you attaching a second pilot to the ship through those methods. I don't recall it categoricaly stating you may only have one pilot per ship, you just can't do it the regular way.

It is possible I missed something in the rules that stops this (I haven't read the new set in too much detail yet), if I have I'm sure someone will chime in

Huh. I believe you are correct. Pator Technical School trains their pilots extra-well!

Re:Multiple Characters - 2007/09/12 05:51 Heh. Egomo Murmanen and his 3 identical siblings, all on the same ship with no notice! That could be fun...

Bleargh.

Re:Multiple Characters - 2007/09/18 00:52 But aren't they clones? Who would care if they saw two or three or four on the same ship?

Anyway, sounds like I've been doing this wrong. I played a deck that stacks Thon Eney on the same ship, forcing your opponent to discard to target it. I used Pator Tech School to move her around as needed.

Re:Multiple Characters - 2007/09/18 02:04 The point is how many pilots do you have on a ship?

Realistically only one person (clone or otherwise) could actually control the ship at any one point in time.

But, as I said, by the rules, I think you're Ok to stack them on one ship, as long as you use the Pator Tech school to do it, rather than just undocking it with multiple pilots. But (in my opinion) this should be changed to only allow one pilot per ship.

Also in your example I would question how Thon's ability stacks.
