Article topics - 2007/09/13 14:46I'm thinking of doing an article on income engines as Exiled has opened up some quite interesting options. Are there any other topics people would like to see covered?
A gentle nudge towards the viable options can make a massive difference to inexperianced players and helping them get up to speed makes tournaments more interesting for all of us.

Re:Article topics - 2007/09/13 16:01A series of articles would be welcome.
There are a few ideas i have had but many of them will depend on what your articles says.
Assuming you can generate large amounts of income - what will you spend them on? You may actually cover several topics in one article
Some thoughts for other articles: (if they make no sense it's because it's sometimes hard to think of a title)
Mining for profit. retaining Control of Outer regions. Setting up a defensive wall - Ship-based vs Structure-based defences. Income denial - Harrassing opponent's income generators/mining operations. Neutralising/bypassing an opponent's Active commands. Bringing an opponent's ships out of their home region.

Re:Article topics - 2007/09/13 22:52I'm probably going to write one up on the art of the Mulligan. Although simple for most of us, new players and some old don't know how to use the mulligan effectively.Blatherskite Caldari Propagandist

Just as long as you don't think I'm writing the whole series myself...
With a bit or planning we should be able to get a co-herent introductory series written by people with a good understanding of those parts of the game.

Something I've noticed over the years is that the best communicators try to convey far less information than the rest of us. If you keep an article to one theme and at most 6 key points it's far more likely the readers will get something out of it.
You've some really nice ideas Snooby, I'm going to re-gig them to try and produce a series for new players:
Income Engines (DTee) The Mulligan (Blatherstrike) Protecting your Tower The kill turn Outer Regions* Disruption/Denial (Blaze)
Is there anything important** missing? Any volunteers to write them? If anyone is interested but feels a bit out of their depth I'd be more than happy to provide advice.

* I've not thought this one through. It might need to be a mini-series of its own.
** Other than which cards are good/bad. I really don't like those articles as they descourage new players from exploring the options for themselves.

Re:Article topics - 2007/09/14 13:27I'm planning on doing one soon on theme decks - the new pirate stuff is the first real opportunity for such in EVE, and think it deserves a bit of exploration.

Re:Article topics - 2007/09/14 21:34I was thinking of writing one on denial or slowing your opponent's game down. The new torture cards in particular make the tactic a lot more viable. And unfortunately its the one type of deck build I see executed poorly, more then any other.

Re:Article topics - 2007/09/15 02:05Flexible thinking. It's what loses people more games against me - they get it in their head that ships A and B are doing station-keeping in outer regions, and fail to realize that retasking is an option, for instance. I find myself looking and thinking "well, I know I'm not vulnerable because I have this news card in my hand, but THEY don't know that, why the heck aren't they attacking me?" -Ryuteki, Owner of the Rules! Re:Article topics - 2007/09/15 11:58I'm thinking of doing one on the new towers and what new options they have opening up with both core and exiled cards. We shall seed the stars with our scions and reap that harvest.

Any chance of a pm with an outline of what you've got in mind? I'd really like to either work it into this series but (like a few others) it may fit better into a series for established players.
I've made a start on the Income Engine article but got distracted by a turbo-charger for my Caldari deck I figure it'll be done by this time next week.
Thanks guys,

Re:Article topics - 2007/09/17 12:29That *was* what I had in mind. A writer I am not. *shrug*-Ryuteki, Owner of the Rules! We're playing Monday evenings in IL, see www.games-plus.com for the address or email me at ryuteki AT gmail DOT com.

No problems with that. Have writing part of it I would say though it's looking more at protecting the new starbases through ships, news, locations as well as outer regions with a bit of disruption/denial in part. It's focusing mainly on the Amarr and Blood Angels cards. We shall seed the stars with our scions and reap that harvest.

Re:Article topics - 2007/09/17 14:56I had started on about all the goings-on at the UK Opens back in June. It was pretty much a subjective view of the decks that were kicking about that day, and any interesting wee combo's that came up.
However, I'm sort of thinking that this is Old News, mostly becuz of Exiled and the other big tournies that have happened since then. Plus I'm kinda tied up with doing the Exiled OCTGN patch.
So what I'm saying is I'm probably dropping this article quicker than a Crystal Boulevard, unless there's any interest to the contrary...

Any chance of talking you into doing the "protecting your tower" article?

I've been freed up from doing the OCTGN stuff so I'll have a stab at this...
