I've been playing my Caldari Draw/Disrupt Destroyer deck for a while now, and its time to bring on a new deck. The choice feel on Amarr. Religious fanatics ftw, and all that.
I've always seen Amarr as a fairly 'simple' faction, with strong individual ships (such as Guardian, Concorde Swat Officer, and others), but without too much combo and finesse. Boy was i wrong Ive been toying around with the composition, and although I'm fairly happy with the result so far, there are a couple of combo's I would like to tjeck with you guys before hitting the table:
Scalding Pass [Outer Region] + Spread the Influence [News]
In my manage phase, open Scalding pass, and at the end of turn, play Spread the Influence, giving my opponents most ocupied Outer Region, Scalding Pass's abilities. This will result in all his ships being destroyed if his Starbase is not upgraded, correct?
Amar Method of Turture [News] + Opponent Controlled Exiled Destroyer [Ship] in assembly
My deck is Frigate heavy, so I needed an answer for the bad-ass Exiled Destroyers (the 4/4's for 3ISK), this was what i came up with:
Play Amarr Method of Torture on the end step of your opponents turn, when his Destroyer'o'Doom is on assembly 1 or 2. On your own turn, sack a non-news to Amarr Method of Turture, to give it to your opponent. Then play a number of Frigates from you hand equal to the Destroyers assembly step, and it is destroyed, correct?
Thats it for now. Im sure I've only touched the surface on Amarr combo's, but hey, you've got to crawl before you can walk.
-In advance, Thanks

Only the ships he has in an outer region that you target with spread the influence, the usefulness of this depends on how many ships your opponent uses to control an outer region. In my play group, outer regions see limited use, you might be lucky to kill one ship with this combo. If your play group does build up fleets in the outer regions, then this combo will probably change the way they play and become fairly useless after a while.

Correct, if you play it at the end of his turn and sacrifice a ship at the begining of your turn to give him control of it. If his destroyer is on assembly 1, you build one frigate and it is destroyed.
Be warned that Mind control will foil your plans, (mind control is a must card in all decks that are able to use it) And you will come out worse of, because you will have lost 2 cards for his one.
The other obvious way around the destroyers is to play bigger ships

Re:Amarr Combo's: Spread the Influence + Turture - 2008/03/30 23:12Our playgroup uses outer regions in great exstend, even more with the new sub-faction starbases, that require you to hold 2 outer regions at the start of your turn, to be able to attack home regions. Plus, people love their Arkonor's
If this combo will change the way people play their game, I can only be happy that my little combo has had such a great influence
Im fully aware of the danger of mind control, that is why my deck features a playset of them myself. Mind Control'ing his Mind Control, should be a valid strategy.
(btw: you can sack any non-news to torture, not just ships)
The deck is featuring alot of sack/torture, so even though bigger ships could help, they are too big of a liability. The deck has only a single Armegeddon Battleship, and that has been included as a answer for a Battery deck, i know one guy in my local group is playing.
