Development of EVE CCG - 2008/04/06 17:13 I am current EVE CCG player and EVE online palyer and I'd like to post some suggestions that would help (if CCP will consider it) to develop the game and make it much more popular:

1) It's essential to create close connection between EVE CCG and EVE Online (the model that WoW TCG used) - to give some EVE Online items (i.e. bpc's) if You find particular card (like WoW's UDE). So the system like WoW TCG used. And also there could be other way connection - probability to find cards in EVE Online and exchange it to EVE CCG card. Online player is strong base of player who will spread the game throuth out their friends who doesn't like online games.

2) To make new sets a little bit more often and make promos, 'cos it allows to make events for newbies more often.

3) And of course information and information - there is not much information in the net. For example in Russia - there is only 1 site giving few articles.

P.S. IMHO, The strong connection between online and ccg made WoW so fast growing.
I ask CCP reps and community to comment my suggestions.

P.P.S. I forgot one point - there is essential to make some diversity in starbases to make the beginning of the game different and the same of upgrades.

thx for the ideas. always nice to see new people around here.

it has been stated on several occasion that that sort of thing will never happen here for various reasons. and most people, me included, do agree. just use the search here.

2) To make new sets a little bit more often and make promos, 'cos it allows to make events for newbies more often.

there are already promos out there for the 2 sets available. and with the new sets ... well let's say we all can agree on that here. check the "online gamig permission" thread soem lines down in this forum.

3) And of course information and information - there is not much information in the net. For example in Russia - there is only 1 site giving few articles.

i'm always a gib fan of information myself. and i can't emphasize its importance. downside is, there is a severe lack of them lately. we are all eager for news and updates.

P.S. IMHO, The strong connection between online and ccg made WoW so fast growing.

wow ccg is at most an ok average ccg. they are getting a lot of sales due to the connectionbetween ccg and online. but in form of active players and such they can't keep up compared to sales. and i think they are going to fold, as soon as people are getting drawn away form wow online. will not be soon, but it will happen.

P.P.S. I forgot one point - there is essential to make some diversity in starbases to make the beginning of the game different and the same of upgrades.

i was kind of disappointed by the exiled starbases myself. but nothing that cant be helped by a new expansion.

have fun playing the EVE

If that were actually to happen I would immediately sell my cards...

Re:Development of EVE CCG - 2008/04/06 20:19 Thank You for the replies.
And what are the reasons agains connecting EVE online and ccg?
Kempeth, why would You sell Your cards?

I have mentioned the above point becouse I think that short-term boost in sales and in popularity can be very positive for the development of the game. The point is that for example in my country, Russia, in capital, Moscow, You can hardly play and find places to play becouse all the ccg clubs sell cards and hold tournaments for games that are popular, and a lot of people want to try EVE CCG but there is nearly no place where they can buy cards and participate in tournaments cos club holders don't sell card cos the game is unpupular. The charmed circle.

P.S. I know several WoW player who also play WoW tcg and they loved the system it uses.

Re:Development of EVE CCG - 2008/04/06 22:17 The problem with that "short-term boost" is just that- it's a short-term boost. Once you link the CCG and the online game together, they become dependent upon one another to succeed. The second the online game starts to mellow out and people lose interest, it spells doom for the CCG as well. Honestly, don't you think the popularity of the WoW CCG will drop considerably if WoW Online were to lose interest and better online games came out that gather more interest (especially Diablo 3, for example)?

But I agree with you on your other points. Information is incredibly important, and these sets need to be released more frequently. Lets hope the 'higher-ups' do something about that.

Kempeth, why would You sell Your cards?

Here's how it would go: If EVE Online and the CCG would become coupled it would indeed create an increase in sales for a while because EVE Online players would want those ingame items. But where would that leave the CCG? An EVE Online player that does not yet have the desire to start with the cardgame still won't start playing the cardgame. He'd either buy boosters and sell the playing cards on ebay or he'd just buy the "loot"-cards on ebay but either way there would barely be any additional players, leaving the community exactly where it is now...

And I'd sell my cards because I wouldn't want to have anything to do with a game that whores itself out so cheaply. But given how often this was discussed and how vehemently the community has responded against it I am not afraid that this might happen...

Re:Development of EVE CCG - 2008/04/07 11:52 And what about the idea used in WoW TCG - craft. When you find resources in boosters and can exchange them for new cards. I think it's a very good idea for EVE CCG - you can find some salvaged components and than exchange them for ships or structures.

Re:Development of EVE CCG - 2008/04/07 14:26 While I find the idea of redeemable cards just as distasteful as everyone else, I'm not sure that it wouldn't be worthwhile here.

One of the major problems which I've faced with EVE is the complete lack of a secondary market. There simply wasn't ever anyplace that sold singles. Finishing a set therefore meant buying randomly, and usually it meant buying entire boxes randomly because stores here had given up carrying the boosters. My Exiled sits as a partial collection right now, largely because of this (although apathy plays a large part too).

Those buyers who hunt for the ultra-rare redemption cards will typically turn around and sell the extras on eBay or something similar. Bam - instant secondary market. Whether those prices would be reasonable, or whether the benefit of a secondary market would be worth the damage to the came is all debatable... I'm just thinking that it isn't all loss for the actual CCG fans.

Re:Development of EVE CCG - 2008/04/07 23:10 I have stated before why I don't think the Redemption program will work in EVE.

EVE is a completely different style of game to WOW, with WOW redemption, you can get a unique item you can get no other way than through buying the cards. Once you acquire this item you've got it for life, there is no way you can use it.

EVE on the other hand, every time you fly out in your ship you run the risk of losing that item, be it a ship, a gun or a mining laser. There it goes in a lovely big explosion, these unique items will just have a big "shoot me" target painted on them. These would be nothing more than collectors pieces, and would rapidly devalue until they were not worth selling.

Also remember, that EVE-Online, part of the game is the in-game economy, most things available in game are made by players, adding external influences such as CCG card sales messes with that economy, something CCP does not want to do.

As for more frequent sets & information, I don't think you'll get any argument.

I see Your point - but it's about linking EVE online and EVE CCG.
And what about the system that WoW TCG uses whan you find resources cards in boosters and redeem tham for crafted special promo CARDS?

Re:Development of EVE CCG - 2008/04/08 13:15 The potential for loss is a good point, Brootal, but I think a smart choice of what is redeemable would counteract a lot of that.

Blueprints would seem an obvious choice - something slightly better than standard, with a good number of runs (if limited at all). Hell, T2 BPs are hard enough to get that it could just be a standard T2 BP and people would be tripping over each other trying to get them.

One thing that I think could be pretty cool would be unique mission cards... They give you a location, first person in gets the mission and whatever rewards are there, mission despawns afterwards. They might not even have to make you enter a code, although there is always that needle-in-a-haystack potential for someone to stumble on the random moon you put it at. I previously suggested something like this to Zack - not in the redemption/unique manner, but just in general, that such things would make a great link between the CCG and EVE-O. Some card mentions something going on somewhere, and you can go there and do that mission.

I agree that WoW's redemption program wouldn't work in EVE, but that doesn't mean SOME redemption program might work. I doubt it will - there are strong enough feelings that doing something like this could alienate two or three of th seven players the game has

Fashionably late as usual.... Cheers Schubi.

While I agree with the long-standing sentiment that EVE-O and EVE-CCG shouldn't be linked in the same way that the WoW games are, I think any sort of incentives to play the card game would be very welcome. All I can think of at the minute is to start putting sticks of bubblegum into boosters...

I really like the idea about unique missions that Bu mentioned.
I'm not sure at all though how it would work with getting benefits in the card game by playing the computer game. And Brootal makes a very good point about avoiding factors which would destabilise the unique in-game economy.
