Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/05/14 02:38Well... I have been playing the cardgame for allmost a year or so now, and it has been allmost 8 months since the sight had an update. Just curious, is anyone still alive? is anything new going to happen? When is the new set going to come out? And is there a reason for no updates on the site since November of last year?"If it is stupid, and it works. Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/05/14 04:01<shrug> Last word from WW is that they're still committed to the game, and there are indeed plans for a new something, but they can't tell us what that is.
There has been no word about the CCG from WW in any form for several months. Nothing here, nothing on the main site, nada. If they were to announce the next expansion today, it would likely release at GenCon, which would make it a year between releases.
I don't think the game is dying - I think it's dead.

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/05/14 12:34My contacts tell me that WW are not planning another expansion for the forseeable future. It seems likely that although Brokkur was originally planning one, he's since moved on to other projects... *shrugs*

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/05/14 13:16There's still plenty they could be doing while not releasing another expansion. Like updating the site here. Or responding to the myriad of posts like this wondering that the Friar Tuck is going on...
Too much like hard work probably.
Despite my usually-optimistic outlook, I have to agree with Bu on this one, even without considering mikelo's comments. I'm curious as to who his "contacts" are, and how much their finger is on the WW pulse. All things considered I wish they would just come out and say that it's Game Over, adios.... At least then what's left of the community could decide what's to be done and whether it's worth keeping the game on life-support.============================ "There is always Hope...." - Elessar Telcontar ============================

By the looks of it this seems to be the case, which makes the nonexistence of any communication about this matter even more outrageous! If the CCG sucks business wise and them telling so would be OK, but letting it and us here to slowly die is very disappointing. My feelings are now officiallly hurt

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/05/15 19:45Hey all, I was able to catch up with Zack, and while he is up to his neck in other WW/CCP work, he said there are no plans to discontinue EVE.

"Committed" is an interesting choice of words, but even the above news is somewhat hopeful. ; )
I'm going to do my best, as a volunteer, to see what things we can get fixed and moving here with the leagues and other information.
We've got a good game here, and while communication lately has not been good, hopefully we can get some things flowing.

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/05/15 20:01Sorry, but at this point, any promises from WW are a load of unbelievable crap unless we see something to back it up.
What exactly does "no plans to discontinue EVE" mean? We've now crossed the line for a full year between releases. The website hasn't been updated in almost seven months. There are no events planned at any of the major conventions this year. We're halfway through May without even a peep of the new league format which was promised. There hasn't been a single public word about the game in at least three months - the last thing I saw was an article in GameTrader which interviewed Zack, and I'm being generous by crediting it with the mag release date, rather than the inevitable lead time for the interview.
I'm curious - what exactly is left to discontinue? Seriously? There are no new products, no official events, no rules arbitration, and now apparently no event support. If this is them NOT discontinuing the game, I'd really hate to see what happens when they DO discontinue it. Perhaps the words have different meaning to them than they do to us. I suppose it's entirely possible that they just mean that the website will stay online, even if nothing ever gets changed?

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/05/15 20:26Buhallin, I feel your pain. I'd love to have received more updates and news these past months, and I think we should have. I think that ball was dropped.
It's true that Exiled came out in late August of last year, and it may not sound like there has been much work in the past 9 months on the next set. This may be due to the merger of CCP / White Wolf, moving some employees between Atlanta and Iceland, I don't know.
As for Leagues, I have no news, and I think that sucks. <shrug> I'm hopeful that we will hear something, or that I can find something out.
Hmmm, I can't find that article with Zack on the Game Trader website. What was it about?------------------ Christian Herr Washington DC Metro Area

as you all said, it is 'undiscontinued'. Well... no news, no extension scheduled. We have never been so close to the end, I guess.
Bad new, in fact. No way WW will say it's over if products are not sold out yet. Of course, we can play online, but... I wish I play a cardgame, not a virtual cardgame. My investissements in ressources and time are wasted so. Do I recruit almost 10 players in my city area (400K inhabitants) for... nothing ?
So what. Standby? A thin hope from something not totally over ? a resurrection at the end ? We will see. I will have troubles in trusting WW or CCP after that. My conviction for a serious game is continuation, expensions, news, debates, spoilerlists, promo, tournaments... in one word : LIFE EVE CCG is not perfect, yes. But a very good funny game at the end. That's my main argument for demos. How can be trustful for demos now ? 'A good game but... no news, no expensions...'
Well, a thin hope...

What was it about? At this point, it honestly doesn't matter if any work was done or not. A year between releases for a CCG is just too much, especially one which was struggling in the first place. A big part of my problem is that I have to assume rational action on the part of CCP/WW. Right now, I certainly wouldn't print and release a new set - it's almost a guaranteed loss. Despite how much we all enjoyed the game, does anyone disagree? Can anyone seriously make a case that a new set would be a big seller that would revive the game and turn a big profit for WW?
The article was in Feb or March, and really had no info for anyone even remotely following the game. It was all about Exiled (6 months after its release, THEN they get articles up) and the new elements it introduced to the game. They asked about new products, and the response was the same "I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you" stuff that we got here.

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/05/16 02:07Well... The general idea i have been getting is a general "EVE the CCG is DEAD". Well... So i guess i stop buying packs and all the other things i have been doing, i mean, today im going to my gaming store, and im going to ask if there are any shipments of EVE CCGs to be expected in the near future. I think i will make my descion based on that. As much as i hate to say it, i have a sinking suspicion that the game is dead, and all the cash i have poured into the game, as well as all the tournaments i have attended, are all for nothing."If it is stupid, and it works. For a company that's supposed to be a big player in the ccg market, WW's communication as of late is pathetic. But I won't call ESG dead yet. More like: adrift but salvageable...

I would love to know Brokkur's stance on all this. I know he's off working on other projects, but if it were me I would be very severely annoyed that the game I conceived and developed was simply being left to dwindle away.============================ "There is always Hope...." - Elessar Telcontar ============================

Of course, if we're going by the EVE version of salvage, we'll end up with something that is near-worthless unless it's combined with the salvage from 50 other things, at which point you MIGHT be able to recoup some of your investment back, but even then you're going to feel like it was a grand waste of time.
