Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/06/16 00:22 The online game just came out with a new expansion. It seems to be doing really well, or is at least marketed well (I don't play the online game). Which really makes me wonder.

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/06/16 02:08 Eve online is doing fine, any neglect here is not related in the online game, but I think the CCG became WW's problem after the merger, CCP let it go, but WW never really picked it up.

Quit being a debbie downer.

We all know there's next to no hope for the game, but if it something somehow happens, and a new expansion is released, and the company actually starts speaking, I'm sure we'll all be over that like ants at a picnic ^^

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/06/16 16:30 I would never burn my cards - EVE CCG is a well done card game that plays goos enough with the cards already oprinted. I will play EVE as well as the long-dead Netrunner on and on and on...

I agree. The current state of affairs changes nothing on the fact that it is a fun game to play.

But Konwacht, how dare you use a cruiser as avatar when you are still a frigate!

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/08/08 21:53 I've recently learned that Zack, previously named as the organised play manager for the EVE CCG, is no longer with the company. This may go a long way to explaining the silence around here, although the fact that no-one has been announced to replace him doesn't bode well

I've also recently heard some EVE MMO devs claim that the CCG is dead. It's possible that there's been no official announcements because, not only is it matter of 'saving face', but it would also render any stock still held by distributors and retailers as effectively worthless...?

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/08/09 04:17 Light your torches and grab your pickforks! We can sack and riot at the EVE place of buisness and get them to respond!

Oh... Wait a minute... Its a MMOG... Due, there is no way for us to really do anything in a massive scale is there? So... What is the best course of action for thoughs that play the CCG?

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/08/10 04:09 Your best course is to continue playing and maintaining an online community as best as you can. It worked for Jyhad (now known as Vampire The Eternal Struggle, also now owned by White Wolf), but I honestly don't know that EVE built itself large enough to maintain the underground following necessary to keep the online presence alive. It's sad that I can keep up-to-date on the forums here by only dropping in once a month or so... -Ryuteki, Owner of the Rules!

Zack was still making official announcements on the main White Wolf boards long after things had gone silent here. While I certainly agree that the lack of a replacement bodes ill, IMHO the decision to kill EVE was made long before his departure.

As for a revival, I simply don't see EVE has having the existent player base to make such a move worthwhile... For all the dead CCGs in the world, only two have made solid revivals - Jyhad/VTES, and L5R. I think an important consideration here is that both revivals involved a reversion of rights - from WotC to White Wolf in the first case, and WotC to AEG in the second. In both cases, the rights were basically reverting from WotC to an original creator who still believed in the game, and were willing to take another shot at it. Since there's no place for the EVE rights to go, and the game has already proven a failure, I think we're done.

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/08/10 14:13 I think that's the problem right there. Aside from a few dozen of us diehards there isn't really a community out there. The game was never marketed properly to the masses, and hence it's never had a chance to get off the starting blocks. And if CCP/WW have dropped the ball, there isn't anyone else invested in the IP to try taking it over.

I get a sense though that the market has just about had it with collectible games anyway. I can see some merit in re-launching the game in fixed sets (as per FFG's Call of Cthulhu and A Game of Thrones LCGs) as long as they fix the metagame in the process to make a wider variety of decks more competitively viable. I doubt it's something that's going to happen any time soon though.

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/08/13 13:01 Call of Cthulu is coming out in fixed sets? I'll have to check that out.

Eve fixed could be a tough sell, as I think it's be hard to get a new player to buy the fixed sets. (As they would cost more then a starter, etc.)

And we might not buy the fixed set as we already have the cards. (Though since it would probably have that elusive Scorpian card I'd like another of, maybe I would buy it if it existed.)

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/08/18 05:03 Nail, meet coffin:

While attending GenCon, I received a phone call from one of the official White Wolf representatives (whom I had worked with at Origins last year running their tournaments). He had a question for me: He wanted to know if there were any EVE tournaments being run at the convention.

*sigh*

I did run into a couple other EVE players there, and they had a rumor that some individual named Chuck was trying to organize an off-the-books tournament, but they had not been given a time or place for this mythical tournament. I therefore assume it did not occur. If someone knows otherwise, 1) Please post about it, and 2) Fie on you for not informing me.

Second nail: There was no EVE CCG product or advertising at the White Wolf booth, despite a heavy EVE-Online presence.

Bright side: I got myself a free shiny little Gallante button. It's not much, but I takes what I can get.
