Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/08/19 12:04I have hit the booth again at Gencon asking for information on the CCG. The only answer I received was "There is nothing on the schedule for the CCG." I did talk to Petur at length about the boardgame and it seems like a very cool concept.
I was lucky enough to walk away with one of the poster boards that was not put up in the booth because of some damage. It was the art for Safty Regulations Revamped.

The other thing that struck me was that if there was a White-Wolfer was asking about tournies then a) They were trying to assess interest before officially making the decicsion to kill off the ccg OR b) The decision has been made and word hasnt trickled down to the WWer OR (and i would love this, but very unlikely) c) The WWer is actually in the loop but they're not going to officially kill it off, and (dare i suggest it) they might actually assign an intern to reinvigorate the site content for whatever loyal fan-base is left.

I'll reserve my complaints about CCG/WW letting the CCG die for now in favor of asking you about the board game. What did you hear? Can you tell us more about it? I'm VERY excited at the prospect of an Eve board game (especially since the CCG is dying/dead, though I'm still collecting cards and buying boosters).
Anything you can tell us would be much appreciated.

Yup. The board game's release has been pushed back to November and the RPG won't hit the shelves until next year some time.
Ironically, I heard that there were no preview copies of the board game at GenCon, and therefore they missed the best opportunity to showcase it this side of Essen...

From what I understand, it is an actual board game. Likely something similar to Starship Catan or Twilight Imperium (but likely so much better!).
They are also developing a pen and paper RPG like Dungeons & Dragons.

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/08/25 19:36I hate to be a bubble-burster, but I'm highly skeptical about any potential for a relaunch. The EVE CCG has proven itself as a failed property.
There are really two scenarios which can occur with such an item. First is that the creators basically write it off as a failure and abandon it. The second is that they still believe in the product, believe it really SHOULD have succeeded, and just think it was bad timing/not enough something/could have been better if...
I've seen both over the years, and there are a few truisms:
1. Products only ever get relaunched if the creator really, truly believes in them. 2. Creators who believe in a product remain involved in the state of that product, even if it's officially discontinued.
Based on the deafening silence surrounding us at the moment, I think it's clear there's little interest or belief in this game. In that kind of environment, a relaunch basically relies on an epiphany where someone wakes up one day and goes "DAMN! We could have made that work!! Everyone, listen to ME!"
Holding my breath here, surely.
