Nah, don't worry Buhallin, you're not bursting my bubble. I just hope that it comes back to life.

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/08/26 09:39I wouldnt think there would be a relaunch, but a re-vamp of the website (by updating the content) couldnt hurt. i agree with onyx verde, and i think that even a small update of the site would be a huge boost to the game, and my mate and i are still buying display packs, and the place i buy from has told me they've stocked up, so i know there is still interest in the cards.

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/08/27 07:47You know what else would be cool? Something like this... Unfortunately such a move almost requires the game to be officially discontinued or else you might get a problem someday.

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/08/27 14:41Player committees are cool ideas in concept, but I think the reality rarely plays out well. From what I have heard the work of the Star Wars committee was generally considered horrid, with the constant broken cards and a power level that spiraled completely out of control.
The other problem with doing this for EVE is that every player we know would end up on the committee

To be honest I have no knowledge about the quality of either committee's work. But even if it is like you say it doesn't mean that such a committee for esg would fail as well. And do you honestly believe that it would significantly damage the game if it were to fail? I think there's a lot a committee could do without releasing full fledged expansions: Overhauling rules and cards, translations, a better player list/map, maybe stuffing holes with a few cards (Anti-character anyone? ).

I had to laugh at this Funny, I've been getting very interested in Decipher's latest Big Idea, and they're really touting up the whole aspect of players being involved in the game's development. Everyone has greeted this with lots of "ZOMG!! Dis is so AWESUMMMM!! What an opportunity" yadda-yadda-yadda... People think it's a ground-breaking move.
It struck me that it's the sort of thing we've been doing here for the past 2 years. In fact, player involvement was , i reckon, the single biggest driver of EtSG's development (when there still was such a thing)
On the topic of player commitees, the only one i know anythng about is the SWCCG one, and everyone who wasnt actually on the commitee didnt seem very impressed by their goings-on.============================ "There is always Hope...." - Elessar Telcontar ============================

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/08/28 14:40I would probably be more impressed by Decipher's "player-driven" stuff with Fight Klub if it wasn't from Decipher.
For starters, their marketing spin is exceedingly dishonest. "No starters! No boosters! You just buy KILOS!!" Wait, isn't a kilo about 300 or so randomly-packed cards in a single box? So isn't a kilo, like, just 10 boosters all at once?
As for the rest... Honestly, Decipher is involving the players because they've fallen so badly, and so far, that they can't afford to do it themselves. Warren Holland has to be pulling a Monty Burns sitting in his office twiddling his fingers and going "EEXXCCELLLEENNT..." at his brilliant idea of convincing players to do most of the work testing and editing the game they will then pay him for.
Decipher's nothing but a bunch of dishonest hacks, and they have been for years.

All I meant is: would it really be so bad if most of the experienced players are in the committee?

I agree that Decipher have pulled some dodgy moves on the past and pissed off a lot of faithful players. But aside from their reputation nowadays as a company, i dont think you can fault their ccg's. Decipher games have always been pure qualit-ayyyy, far and above stuff from their competitors like UDE and Wizards. EtSG has been the only ccg i've played that can rival any of Decipher's past ones. Anything else tends to be formulaic, repetitive, power-build shite. In fairness though - Magic, Vs and YGO have always sorted out my insomnia, so i guess they're not all bad...
Apologies for the thread hijack.
To answer Kempeth's question though - no, all of the non-lurkers here on the committee wouldnt be bad, and as well as that there are a few relatively new players here who still post etcc and i'm sure they would be keen to get involved and provide some fresh thinking.
I nominate Bu for Chair!!!

Re:Is EVE the CCG still alive? - 2008/08/29 16:48My own last Decipher comment: They have made some good games in the past, but their maintenance has never held up to the initial promise. Trek was a questionable design, and Star Wars only made it to the third expansion before the horrible missteps started. Dagobah was easily the beginning of the end for SWCCG, even though they managed to keep milking the game for a good while. I was good friends with the guy who was their Red Leader for a while, the stories he told me about their playtesting for expansions would require Magic to put you back to sleep LOTRO I avoided, so can't speak to, but Wars dragged me back in just long enough to discover that not only were they still the dishonest bastards I'd known from the SWCCG days, but they were also pretty useless without a high-dollar property to hang their products on.
Back on topic: I think you took my comment about the potential committee makeup the wrong way. I don't think it would be bad to have the people here running the committee, I just honestly have to wonder who, outside the committee, would actually use the work it did.

Wha?
I used to play SWCCG. I dunno about these player committees, but "broken cards and a power level that spiraled completely out of control" was, I'm fairly sure, the mission statement of that card game. -Ryuteki, Owner of the Rules!
