caldari deck from alot of ideas(need input) - 2008/03/15 21:28 im working on a caldari deck built around a couple of tricks, so far ive hard some huge headaches trying to prioritise which cards to keep and which ti throw out.
Here the deck list so far:

i got two carsd to much in the deck, though i feel hard pressed to pick to cards to remove.

ok heres the idea:
im trying first and foremost to try and build the deck around The scope in combination with a lot of news such as rookie mistakes, dead and alive and such. the idea is to try and control the number of ships he has in play at one time. Thats the key idea with the deck, thats working pretty well sofar.

next i'm trying to build a discard/draw deck and if posible take advantage of feed on the week.

Thirdly im using cheap ships as it is not a very income heavy deck so everything have to be very cheap with a very few exceptions. Im using recruiters to get my guristas ships faster into play.

fourthly i'd like to use some of the trickery caldari is so good at, warp scramble , sensor dampen, target jam...

Lastly im trying to see if i cant get something positiv out of quafe factory, though using no limited locations is really difficult. To be able to play discordant colony at all ille have to play the quafe factory cards in outer regions and withdraw my ships in order to play it in my home region. Also when im not allowed to use limited cards my opponent aren't suposed to have an easy time of it, thats why im trying to use trophy room.

I'd like some advise from you guys on ways to improve the deck, trying to keep in mind the ideas im trying to build into the deck. I realise i might be streching myself to thin trying to get all these ideas into one deck.

Let me hear what critisism you guys can come up with.

add another couple info at cost, a tarei namazoth works very well with trophy room, and i dont know all of these cards but your deck seems to need a few more regions. there was an article dealing on deck synergy or somethin that really helped me in my deck construction, and a stain region would be a great defence with your guristas tower (insomther also works well with stain). with your mining ships pyroxes would work well, 0 cost and 3 ore/mineral. i hope this helps,

Re:caldari deck from alot of ideas(need imput) - 2008/08/13 15:10 You kinda said it yourself - you migt be tryig to cram too much into one deck, and you'll lose synergy that way.
There's some really cool ideas there though! Also I like nox's suggestion about using T.Namazoth along with the Trophy Room. You could have him (her?) bunny-hop on and off a ship to switch their agent ability on and off between your and your opponent's management phases.

In general, the deck is very combo-dependant, so to help you get the draws you need i would suggest putting in more Info at a Cost and using Black Market (the coolest Caldari card ever IMO) to delve for the cards you need (although Malevolent Betrayal's good too). Venal Tower gets an extra draw too, but you loose the protective ability of the Guristas Tower, although you could always gamble on the likelihood of your opponent using a pirate tower too.

Multiple copies of Advanced Shipyard might help you get your ships out for a lot cheaper.

I would suggest that you're very thin on copies of the Trophy Room and The Scope if these are going to feature heavily in your strategy.

Feed on the Weak typically needs multiple copies to be effective (as an income engine that is). If it were me, i would remove the discard element from this particular deck and augment the other strategic elements instead. Build a completely new deck that focuses on discard and put in things like Security Breach. Faulty Imp Manager is a good all-round headmelter for your opponent in any deck though!

Herons are usually only good for breaking thru defences (ambush, patrol etc)to deliver your killing blow. Check out the Maulus too, which can also Target Jam. Or else use Outmaneuvered...

Lastly, once you seed the Outers with the Quafe Factory, you'll want to get your opponent to go there and stay there, so maybe consider Ship Computer Glitch.

BUT if you really want to keep all the elements in this deck and just drop two cards, then i would lose the Basilisks or the Herons. I think there's also better alternatives than the Bantams...

Sorry this is all a bit disjointed, but there's a lot to consider, and some really nice tech in there! Good luck with tweaking!!

As has been said, one deck too much.

I can sort of see where the deck is going, but hard to know how it all works together without trying it.

But to me your income engine is very weak, 10 locations, 1 feed on the weak. and with 4 of those locations being Doscordant Colony, to me it's very easy to disrupt your income.

Also with your 1 off news cards, although you do have a bit of a system to go hunting for them, I'd really want any 1 only copies of cards in my deck to be gamebreaking. Add to that that in my game group Mind control is an almost must in any deck.

Also on your ships, you said you're going for cheap ships because of you small income engine. If you're controling the numbers of ships he has on the board, personally I'd want a few heavy hitters in there. Otherwise it might be difficult to finish him off. Personally, I'd look at something like the ferox or gurista's liquidators. These also fit in somewhat with the discard theme.



Personally what I'd do is something like (mind you this is all without playing the deck):

Add:

2x Feed on the weak
1x Market Crash
2x Gurista liquidators
1x Ferox


Remove:
2x Market fluctuations
1x Information at a cost
2x Bantam
2x Kestrel
2x Baslisk

That leaves one card slot open, I'd probably make that an extra location card, or an income generating starbase structure, say a moon harvister or gurista's battery might go ok. I'd also probably completely re-work the income engine but not sure how at the moment.

But that's just me.

Anyway let me try and pick up my line of thought here. I should mention im at work currently so i cant flip through my card collection at the moment so this is a mix of what i can remember and the card list on this site.

As some of you have mentioned i have tried to cram as many thing into the deck as i posible can and it obviously does suffer because of it, so lets try and cut off a few corners and stream line the deck somewhat.

In order to do this ill have to pull out some of the combos, ill start by striping out the draw/discard part so i can focus on:
  • cards built around the scope

  • warp scramble, sensor dampen, target jam

  • the unusual income engine


  • First off removing the draw/discard eleminates:
    bistot
    feed on the week
    faulty implant manufacturer
    information at a cost
    Market crash
    Market fluctuation

    So the income engine have taken a hit since i no longer take advantage from feed on the week so i will need to add somedifferent non-limited locations, another quafe and 2 pyrexes and 2 solid pyrexes might help, though im a bit unsure on these.

    I can ramp up the news cards as i have just eleminated alot of the other ones, so another Dead and Alive and 2 mutiny.

    I threw out Smugler's den aswell, didn't really feel it contributed that much to the deck as a whole.

    the T. Namazoth idea is good i like that one. Though i dont feel its necesary to use advanced ship yard as i dont have a lot of expensive ships in the deck.

    My income engine will prolly need some more work though i'd like to try and keep going with the quafe factories see if that can work out to my advantage.

    As of now i haven't looked through my ships but just focused on improving the income engine and streamlining the news/starbase structures. I'll go through my ships soon.
