Tournament Software Tutorial - 2007/06/01 17:22This is a basic tutorial for Agents who need help using EVE’s tournament software, the Holder. It will take you from installation, through running your first tournament, to submitting results back to the Organized Play Coordinator.
1. Download the executable from the Agent Resources page. Please note the program requires a Windows PC that is already running the .Net Framework, which can be downloaded here. Simply follow the onscreen instructions provided by the .Net Installer. Once it is fully installed, you will be able to run The Holder executable.
2. Open The Holder and click on the “New Tournament” button at the bottom of the window.
3. Enter the name of the tournament and its format (constructed, limited, etc.). Unless you have a desire to restrict the number of rounds to a specific number, go ahead and leave it set to “Auto.” For tournaments with up to twelve people, the number of finalists should be set to “Top 2.” Larger tournaments should scale up as necessary. Finally, fill in the date and location of the event, along with any notes you want to pass along to the O.P. Coordinator, including the names of players who haven’t yet registered on the website.
4. Fill in each player’s forum nickname and full name. Make sure each player’s forum ID is entered exactly as it appears on the forums. Players without an entry in the database should register on the forums before entering the tournament. If they are unable to register beforehand, have them fill out the signup sheet found in the Agent Resources. Please note any new players in the Comments section of the tournament.
5. Once all players are registered, click on the “Round 1” tab, and click the “Create Games…” button at the bottom of the window to randomly assign seating for each player. To assign scores to players who have completed a match, select the dropdown menu next to their pairing and click on the outcome that matches their final score. Repeat this until all pairings have been scored, then proceed onto Round 2. Click the “Create Games…” button under this tab and repeat the scoring process.
6. Continue to score each match of each round, until the end of the tournament. Once the event is complete, please double check that all information is accurate, and then click the “Export Tournament…” button. This will save the tournament information as an XML file in a location of your choosing. After saving the file, you should then send it to zack@ccpgames.com as an attachement. After verifying the information in the file, AgentZero will then upload the information to the player database, updating the Glicko scores of everyone involved.
7. To see the outcome of a completed tournament, check the event archives. If an event’s XML file has been submitted and processed, you will be able to see the results under its entry.Zack Walters EVE: The Second Genesis Organized Play Coordinator White Wolf | CCP North America
