My opponent plays a Remnant of Vak'atioth and pays 10 ISK for it. Do I have to pay 10 ISK to destroy it with Mind Control?
An X is considered a 0 for all intents and purposes, except for the effect of the card itself. So for example, destroying a Mind Control with another Mind Control always costs 0 ISK.
The trouble is, Vampboy, Mind Control states that 'x' equals the "printed price" of the card it is destroying. If the physical ink that makes an 'x' equals '0', well, then, there you go. It's an arbitrary rule, of course. But, then again, CCG's seem to be fundamentally designed around arbitrative concepts. All rules can be made, and all rules can be broken and remade into something else. All you have to do is print a card that says you can. Nothing wrong with this, of course.
However, I agree that, overall, this ruling is not particularly sensible from a balance point of view.

That answer doesn't make much sense. The card cost is paid when the card goes on the pile, since costs take effect immediately; therefore the cost would be the 10 isk paid to put the card on the pile, would it not?

In my play group we have been saying that as there is no definative cost cards with X ISK can not be countered with cards like Mind Control.
