New Card Search Feature is Live

After several months of development, the new card search feature is now live. Available under the Sortable Card List link on the left, this new system is an improvement, both functionally and visually, over the old one. It offers an expanded list of card elements, allowing users to refine their searches to a greater degree, and delivers it all via a fast, easy to read interface. Deck building becomes a streamlined process using this as a reference tool!

Exiled Errata is Up!

The latest round of errata and clarifications has been posted to the rules page. Nearly every change posted is in direct response to player discussions on the forums, and for that, the development team would like to extend its thanks. The community has been invaluable in helping us tighten up the game, both thematically and mechanically. Second Genesis would be nothing without the fans who love it enough to spend hours ripping it to pieces. Thank you.

Discuss the changes on forums.

EVE CCG at Fanfest

Demonstrations of the game will be run all day Thursday in the CCG room, and cards will be given away to any new players who stop by to learn the game. This is a great chance for EVE fans to learn the game and get a head start on their collection! The free cards will also come in handy for the constructed tournament on Friday.

Final Exiled Spoiler

For the final spoiler for The Exiled, we decided not to focus on new card effects, but to instead highlight the set’s new versatility. Look at that shiny new Veldspar!

Okay, so it’s not the most glamorous card we could have revealed, but this rather unremarkable location does serve a purpose in the set. With all the emphasis that has been placed upon making a wider array of ships and news available to players in limited formats, we realized that to not include an old standby like Veldspar would be a big mistake. Drafting with only boosters from The Exiled will result in some incredible decks, but without any locations dedicated to a simple, steady stream of income, they would fall flat.

A Battleship’s Best Friend

With the release of The Exiled (and the Gen Con Championship) only a few weeks away, we thought it was time to make you all drool. All of this set is designed to change the way the game has been played up to now, but Mastermind is the card that has the most potential to adjust the pace of play.

While its block of text appears dense and intimidating at first glance, Mastermind’s effect is actually very simple. It is played during any management phase (most likely your own), and enables a CEO to choose a number of ships from a single region, and return them to her hand. She can then tally the combined cost and assembly time of the recovered ships, and choose any number of ships from her hand whose total costs and assembly times do not exceed those totals, and place them into the targeted region.

New Towers for Gen Con

Due to the unforeseen delays experience by The Exiled, the full set will not be legal for use at the 2007 Gen Con Championship. To expect you, the players, to assimilate the full set and prepared to utilize it in serious competition in only a day or so would be unfair, but we also wanted to avoid a carbon copy of last year's event. To this end, we are utilizing the updated rules that release with The Exiled, as well as allowing use of the four new starbases from the set.

EVE CCG to Offer $25,000 at Gen Con

Atlanta, GA - June 23, 2007 – EVE: The Second Genesis, CCP | White Wolf’s collectable card game that debuted at Gen Con 2006, will be returning this year with a new expansion set and a $25,000 Championship Tournament.

Taking place at the largest hobby show in North America, Gen Con Indianapolis, this year’s competition will offer more than double the prize pool of last year’s, making it one of the largest CCG payouts at the convention. To celebrate the release of the game’s first expansion, The Exiled, CCP has opened up the tournament to all Gen Con attendees. This will allow both EVE: The Second Genesis veterans and newcomers to experience all the action. For more information about entry into the con and registering for the Championship, visit the Gen Con website at www.gencon.com/2007/indy.

Full Exiled Rules Posted

While the whole of The Exiled will not be legal for use in the Gen Con Championship, several new mechanics and cards from the set will be allowed. All four new starbases will be legal, and while no new outer regions will be included, the existing regions will be subject to the new limit of one new region played per turn presented in the updated rules.

For a more complete look at the rules, check out the PDF here or a plain text version here, and be sure to check back on Monday when we post images and a discussion about the new starbases and how they will affect gameplay at the Championship.

Minmatar Still Dangerous in The Exiled

After seeing the changes The Exiled is bringing to the game, many players have expressed concern that the rush tactic will no longer be viable, and that the race that most relies upon said tactic, the Minmatar, will be left largely toothless. As you can plainly see from the Angel Haunter, these fears are entirely unfounded.

Angel Haunter is one of a series of new destroyers, and is arguably the most visceral in its dealings with enemy ships. Like most of the cards in this series, its long assembly is offset by its special hastening effect, making the ship more fearsome the more an opponent relies upon frigates. Combined with its low cost, this makes the Haunter frighteningly easy to field.

CEO Art Unveiled pt.2

Featured on this week’s card is Ian O’Brien, no doubt up to something nefarious in the foreground of this news card. Known to everyone around the forums as Calmdown, Ian has done a great deal to promote ESG, and is among the top players, coming in second at last year’s Fan Fest tournament.

As befits Ian’s play style, Terrorism is a terrific ace in the hole, capable of upsetting the worst standoffs. Its primary use is clear: lure a large enemy force into your seemingly-undefended home region, then sacrifice a single large ship to completely obliterate your opponent’s whole fleet, but the inherent restrictions make the process a bit more complicated. Being restricted to play in your home region, Terrorism requires a significant gambit to be used at its most effective. The application of the shield reduction to all ships in the region only makes the gambit that much riskier.
